I never leave the camper ground with the awning out. I also do not leave it out at night anymore. To many trips out in the dark in my underwear to put it away. Nobody wants to see that.

Pretty cheap and easy insurance, of course extended happy hours may dictate that I forget to do this too!
After 7 years on my awning, I replaced the material on mine here at home by myself, for just the reason you stated.......wasn't rolling back up straight.....so, that's why with the new one, I added the pop rivets.......my awning is out more then it's retracted, even here at home

And with all your additional rigging, I'd be pretty confident as well. Watch out for those Micro Bursts however!

We rarely ever use ours. If we do put it out, we never leave it unattended even for a short period of time. We were staying at Cherry Hill Campground in MD. The campground warns people to not leave out their awning when they go site seeing in DC. A short but severe storm blew through and the place was full of destroyed awnings mon every type of RV. Not worth it to us.

That's why we have a forum....to get and give input .....granted, what works for a lot of us, won't work for everybody....but nothing ventured, nothing gained!......that's why i also built a triple section aluminum flagpole that stays attached while traveling, and has a motor to raise and lower....I did it because I could...and nobody else has one..

Used rear stabilizer motor, coupled to a length of acme thread, and use an RF motor controller with a fob....while in Arizona last winter, I refined the motor housing and upper mount.....I can stand on ground, pull my release cord, tilt the whole unit with mast, down to ground to install flag......the flag is on swivel mounts so it won't get tangled up on the pole.....added the LED light up top, using a dusk to dawn sensor with a master kill switch inside trailer......and that light is bright!

Sonofagun!!
Today I hooked up my winch line from my jeep and was able to pull the back in position. You can't hardly tell they were bent. Took the twist right out of them. I am a happy camper.

Your "average" awning uses very thin aluminum in the arms. Wind or rain load can easily bend/kink your arm. $$$ to repair.
