3500s have the same de-tuned version as the 2500s unless they are ordered with the upgraded Aisin transmission. Also, I have to laugh calling it "de-tuned". I guess that's technically correct but it still has 900lb/ft or torque. The Aisin version has 1000. I was pricing them recently and I think the Aisin option is around $2500 but can't remember for sure. In any case, plenty of power either way you go.

Good info - I was under the impression all 3500's got the upgraded engine and AISIN was about tow rating.
This explains why the RAM 3500 I drove before we bought the F-350 felt rather slow on the on ramp - it had the downrated powerplant. The GM felt the fastest.

I'd be interested to see the cost difference between a F-350 and a Dodge 2500. My guess is its not much. The Dodge gets you coils, the Ford gets you power and payload.

The GM of course will be the most expensive (we really liked the Silverado 3500, but in our case at least they wouldn't deal like Ford).

An often overlooked item is the optional rear air suspension offered on the Ram. It, frankly is the primary reason I would not consider the other brands.

The 2500 RASS is a full airbag system. No steel spring at all. The 3500 system is a combo leaf/supplemental air assist. I have owned both trucks. The ride from the 2500 is significantly better.

The Ram 2500 with Rear Air will provide the best ride loaded or not. Another benefit is the maintained ride height also maintains headlamp aim.

No fool like an old fool! I did run the numbers 15.500 x 20% = 3100 right at my PLC of 3090 and I believe the OP said he was looking to top out at around 13000 lbs. So 13000 x 20% = 2600 pin weight so a 3/4 ton will work just fine. So any way the OP was looking thoughts on 2500’s

Plus aux tank if applicable, plus 200# hitch, plus 150# wife, plus kids, plus dog? plus air compressor in the bed, and who's trailer runs 20%? Wish mine did....more like 22-23%...

All of a sudden your at 2900lb pin weight with an extra 400#s of people, hitch and tools in the truck.......3300lbs and you need a 1 ton.

I mean, unless you like to RV alone, with an empty bed. With a Anderson hitch. Then it might work.
I keep my bed completely empty to keep my 1 ton from being overloaded...

The ONLY reason i drive a ram 3500 every day is that the company i work for pays for fuel and the truck. Our dodges are killing us on maintenance costs.

I drove a new 2020 Chevy with Duramax Allison transmission yesterday. the new Allison transmission was a 10 speed auto that was smooth as butter. I have a Ram now and love it the Chev 3500 was very high though and it was hard to get into without running boards

Dodge- best looking new trucks. They look real good in the repair shop.
Chevy- Best ride and comfort.
Ford- best power and reliability.

All - over priced in this current market.

I'm towing with an '06 F250 6.DOH that has 212000 miles on it and has been very reliable.

Badmouthing the "great" cummins on this forum is a big no no and the 6. Oh no is a pile of junk regardless of if you know it or not.

The 6.0 and 6.4 were decent motors, the inept Ford design team didn't know how to make a reliable non-destructive emissions system. You can "bullet proof" them by removing all that junk, as long as you don't live in places like california...
