Fading Cap two years later after Poli Glow application

So...two years my 5W cap was starting to fade. I prepped and applied the PG product per instructions and even called their US warehouse to ensure proper prep and app. The product held up very well for the first year. 18 months latter the fading appeared again and did touch up per instructions. Improvement but could not regain the first app results. This spring fading is back..
Long story short..need to look at another solution. Full body paint is the way to go.

However, I’ve been considering LineX as a solution. Based on what I’ve read, this product would offer an effective solution with the simplest maintenance to keep the cap looking good.

I’m looking for comments on the LineX solution. Has anyone else considered or used it. I have it on my truck box and it holds looks great after 4 years.

I posted a similar thread two years ago, so trying update current experience.

Much appreciated.

Why don't you just get it painted?

Check the fine print for Linex. The ONLY application that carries their warranty is truck beds. I have on my bed deck and was not happy with the results. Had to pay to have it done again. Warranty will have to come from the installer and get it in writing.

I have a standing offer from a paint shop to paint my front cap. They do RV's, autos and have a contract with the city for buses. Been there twice and have seen RV's in the shop so they know RV's I assume.
actually 3 offers.
1st they do all the work $2200+
2nd, I take the trims off, clean caulking from cap, they paint, I re-trim and re-caulk. $1200
3rd, I remove the cap, take it down $800.

My plan is for #2.

A 4th plan is I can drive 250 miles RT to the MFG, buy a cap $985, bring it home and swap it out. New cap is the new lighter non fade color. But gel coat.
#2 still trumps that IMO.

I used this product called Shine-on which acts like a wipe on gel gloss after a good cleaning. The front cap last about a year and the sides go for 2 years per application. Cost is about $100 for a 34' FW kit.

I am in the process of repainting my motorhome. I applied Poli-Glo 3 years ago. looking bad 2 years ago so I reapplied, results not good. Was going to strip and polish/wax. Could not get Poli-Glo off. Finally decided that sanding was the only way to remove it. I'm about half way with painting now and it's looking good.

Thanks for the replies. And yes, auto paint finish is the go-to option, however just wanted to look at other options. I’ve found an auto shop that specializes in this type of work at $1700, $2000 for metallic finish. Seems reasonable.

Inserting comment bddadles. Visited a LineX dealer yesterday. Very evasive when asked about warranty...not a very friendly place. In addition 5W resale may be effected with a LineX finish.

Like your investigation and options CumminsFan. May drop you a PM when I get closer to job.

The Shineon sounds a lot like Poli Glow..but appreciate the lead.
So paint it is!
Thanks

Ok just an update. “Just get it painted” ….should have taken that advice. Just got it painted. Very pleased. $2000 CDN. Probably the only long term solution. Fortunately I found a shop that specializes in this type and other RV repairs. Happy campers.

I had a 5th wheel with half paint. Yes, half paint was a thing back in 2011. Anyway the graphics were paint and not stickers. The front cap was painted. Anyway after 7 years there was no fading.

And yes, about half the 5th was painted.

I've seen travel trailers that have Line-X or Rhino Lining installed on the front of the trailer in a pattern from the factory. The lower frame guards were also done. A similar product is used to re-do roofs. I guess it would depend on whether you like the look and accept that it will also fade over time.
