Fifth wheel space
In thinking about upgrading to a Fifth wheel, how much if any of the truck bed will still be usable? Particularly when considering I have a Honda EU3000i generator. Most of the 5er's I'm looking at, do not appear to have space that large to put a gen. Where's a guy put his genny

It depends. Which bed do you have? Long bed? Standard bed? Toolbox/fuel tank in it nothing? What else is in the bed? Do you really NEED that 3kw generator?
CC LB 3500 dually here with a split external tank/toolbox in the back along with quite the load of lumber for leveling and blocking as the need arises.
No 3kw generator but an easily portable 2kw Honda locked in the trailer when there is a need. If A/C or extra heat is needed it is either suck it up or go to a CG with power.

It can make some difference on hitch used, but I'd have plenty of room in my standard bed, in front of my B&W hitch, to carry a Honda 3K.
I carry lots of things in the truck bed, ahead and behind the hitch. One issue, is wind turbulence, due to nose of FW being over the truck bed. Light wt items, can be lifted/sucked out of the bed.

When I had my 5er I towed with an 8' bed truck. There's a lot of room in front of the 5th hitch. Plenty for a large gen.

I had a Montana 3160, I put my Honda 3100 in the large side compartment. If you can lift it, it goes right in. Given a Do-Over, I would have bought 2 of the little ones and a parallel wire harness.

The bed is a standard F250 at 81.6" The only thing in the bed would be the hitch & gen, if it will fit. Hitch dealer is recomending is a Pull Rite Auto Slider.

I have a 3KW and bought as a multi-use tool. Camper, Home Power Outages & property maint ect. Realy want to avoid buying another, this baby is sweet. Sips fuel, quite and will run my air if needed when off grid as well as the basics during a outage, heat, fridge & few lights.

I have a 5er and as long as you keep everything below the sides of your truck bed, your fine. Depending on how high the 5er sits above the bed rails, you may have a little more space but that's what I use as a rule of thumb. If you get a 5th wheel that has a built in hitch, depending on the hitch specs., you might be able to buy a platform that fits into the hitch (available on Amazon and many other RV supply stores) to put your generator on.
Good Luck and Safe Travels!

The Fifth Wheel I am currently looking at has a receiver in the back rated at 300 LBS max. My gen is around 150 lbs

It might fit in the front bay depending on which camper you get. I have 2 friends that put Champion generators in there. They put them on a slide out tray. Not sure how useful that is if you need to run it a long time with having to keep the door up and open.
Carrying it on the back, or in the bed of a truck would require it to be pretty well wrapped from water and dirt (especially on the back of an RV.
I'd sell it and get 2 Honda 2200's and toss them in the front bay. You can remove one or both depending on your needs. And they will be secured, safe, and out of the weather. That's what I havoc - and I can lift them and move them when necessary; DW and I together wouldn't be able to move a 3500 or a 4000.

Some folks place a generator in front compartment
I went a different route........3500 Longbed
4KW Generator in it's own enclosed box with fuel can
5th wheel hitch
Companion tool box
What year is your F250...........need to pay attention to RAWR/Max Tire Load Rating when going 5th wheel

If you haven't purchased the 5er, just look for on board generater. I never had one till our current 5er and it's so nice not to have to load a portable. Ours is a onan 5500 on gas but it's a toyhualer with a dedicated tank for genny

I can get by with solar for the most part and use a 2k Honda occasionally. I have a roll top box cover that takes up space in the front of my short bed truck so carrying my 3500 watt Generac in the truck bed is not possible. I threw it on the back of the fiver once in order to run the A/C, but, as it turned out we never used it anyway.

So the gen is in the bigger/front box? I'm guessing you keep the lid open while running? Does that allow enough air movement?
