Mr. Dblr... I agree with your thoughts here. Our Cedar Creek has been "ok", however we are into our 8th month of post retirement Full Timing and want something a bit more current with a couple more conveniences and higher quality.

Also agree on not being able to make wanted changes to a Grand Design.

I'm a bit different (ask my wife ) in that I look at build quality first and floorplan second...most folks do it the opposite way. EXAMPLE... my current Fiver is 38ish feet with a UVW of about 10,500lbs. Our new GD is almost 3 feet shorter BUT WEIGHS 1,500lbs MORE!!!

I think we are in the same boat as I looked at the build and of course the wife looks at the insides and such, I know our River Stone weighs almost 4,000lbs more then the Cedar Creek did unloaded and my cargo capacity is 3150lbs which is just about where some full timers like to be but some need higher. We do not full time ( yet) but do travel almost the entire summer, I liked the 8,000 ales, wide body coach with 3 1/4inch walls, dual pane windows, disc brakes, 17.5 H rated Good Year tires standard and quite a few other standard options also which swayed us to the River Stone Legacy. A salesman told us going to a Grand Design from the Cedar Creek would be a lateral move in his opinion but he did also sell Landmarks which of course he tried to sell us next. Good luck with your Grand Design they are a very nice unit and have heard good things about them with great customer service if needed.

Keep in mind..
Your 1st coach is a learning tool..
When You tour/view "In Person" any perspective coach..
View it First with all slides retracted,

If the coach is fully usable without the slides extended, then give it a second look.
(Think wally-docking,rest areas,truckstops...any where that you cannot/do not have room for the slides to be extended)

BUY USED! & buy one with everything you "think" you want and will need..
IF the perspective coach seems a bit small but still "DO-Able" .......REMEMBER!!!
What seemed small... becomes unbearably TINY after being Coop'd up" for a week or more due to weather...(AKA.....Cabin Fever)

You will make mistakes and have booboo's........We all have.....(sometimes more than twice..)
Within a year or two you will discover..about the RV

What you love about the RV...
What you can kinda-sorta tolerate with the RV..
And what you absolutely hate about that !@#$%^%$#@! RV.
Then you can go get what you should have gotten in the first place..
Happy Hunting

I would even go a few years older and get much better quality. Anything new or newer will get you low or lower quality for 35k.

A great resource is rvreviews.net....they will help you a ton!

I would check with the Kansas RV Center in Chanute, KS. that is the old Hitch Hiker manufacturing facility. They do refurbs and you might find an older Hitch Hiker. You never know what you will find on their lot. Check the web site. We have been full timing in a Hitch Hiker Champagne for 10 years and have never had any complaints about the quality. Especially for a first RV an Hitch Hiker , or an Excel, or even an old Teton could be just your ticket.

Another place to look is on consignment lots. I bought ours from PPL Motors in Houston, Tx. Their web site usually has hundreds of units.
