FL 5th wheel

I am thinking I would like a front living room on my next 5th wheel. I like the fact that it is a little isolated compared to other floor plans. It's like you have your own little movie theater right in your camper. Any of you that have had one or currently had one care to give some pros & cons of this setup?

Going up and down the stairs to do basically anything turned me off of one. Just climbing the stairs to go to the bathroom all the time was enough for us. They are amazing if spending all your time in the living room is how you camp.

At the time I got our Bounder, I was going from a small Cougar 5r & thought I wanted a larger FL Montana. As Spdracr39 posted above, I quickly found out how much up/down those 3 little steps I would be doing. Want something to eat/drink: up/down the steps. Want to use the bathroom:up/down the steps. Want to go out: up/down the steps.

The other downside was the pin weight was HUGE! Only a full 1-ton dually could tow one.

Didn't want to go up/down those steps all the time nor want a 1-ton dually as a daily driver.....hence=Bounder.

We had a Montana 375fl fiver. I thought the
front living room was awesome….roomy, comfortable, had two recliners, fireplace, tv…..
It is however an enclosed space instead of an open style floor plan… makes the kitchen/dining area smaller

I like the looks of the FL floor plan but on most of them the basements are greatly reduced in size

Our bathroom is up the stairs in the bedroom on our current floor plan & our house is a split level so we are kind of used to going up & down steps to get anywhere. But yes this is something to think about, as the older we get, the harder those steps are going to be. And our next camper is likely to be our last that we retire in. The wife & I just had a long conversation about if our health declines then what happens after that? We both agreed that when that happens then rving will likely be over but we should enjoy our time as much as we can before that happens. Thanks for your input

Wow! I wouldn't have guess pin weight would be that much more. I have heard that the front kitchens have an ugly pin weight. I have driven semi's on & off most of my life so driving a dually will not bother me. My current truck is srw 1 ton & plan on upgrading to the dually for my next one so we will be able to pull just about anything we choose. Some of those monsters are over 25k but I doubt we choose anything that large or heavy. Thanks for your input.

Why would the basement be reduced? The rooms are basically the same size. One just has couches & chairs the other one has a king bed. In fact most with this style also comes with a basement in the back as well under the bedroom. But then again that is 3 more steps. 3 in the front, 3 in the back, & 3 or 4 out the door.

I've never been able to figure out why the basements are smaller

There is no way that I would give up my view out of the back window, and I have had some very spectactular views sitting my swivel rocker over the years.

There is another consideration. There are not many forward living room 5ers around. There is a reason for that. They are not very popular.

If you buy one sooner or later you will want to sell it. You will be faced with a very small market interested in buying it therefore don't think that you will get much of a return on it.

Just a little bit of a pragmatic thought on getting something unusual.
