Furnace blowing propane into trailer?

When my furnace switches on, the air is cold blowing in and smells badly of propane until the furnace ignites, what can I check?

Sounds like you have a leak between the combustion chamber and the hot air exchanger. If so, dangerous situation and can kill you. I wouldn't use it until you check it out. The combustion chamber has access to outside air as input, and exhausts burnt fumes. You hot air exchanger sucks in air from inside your coach usually on the floor, warms it, and sends it to the registers in the coach.

Never should those two chambers be able to pass air between them.

Gas leak

Happened to us in Wyoming gas leak detector alarm sounded
When new During walk through smelled gas when heater was on
It was dismissed as braking in smell ??
Went back to dealership to complain about gas smell
Dealer service once again say nothing to worry about
When on our trip to Wyoming now alarm is sounding when heater was running
Ovcourse we shut it down
Dealer in Wyoming found gas line loose and about to fall off
and blowing raw gas into coach .
Do not believe in a dealership Service tech who opinion could get you killed
Go to another RV service shop or to a gas company service
Proper tech will have a gas leak detection tool

Sounds like something you should have looked at by a skilled rv furnace tech. Not worth your life to save a few bucks.

I don't like the gas smell and agree you should have it checked. As for the furnace blowing cold air before it ignites, It is supposed to do that. It is clearing itself before lighting off. But you should not smell gas.
