Going from full time Motorhome to full time stationary 5th wheel

Looking for information on several different topics;
1) Currently legal domicile is Florida, looking to put 5th wheel on Daughters property in South Carolina.
A. Do we need to register the 5th wheel if we do it plan on traveling?
B. Do we need to pay personal property tax ?
C. We will be using daughters address so how would we acquire SC drivers license without proof of residence. (Utility bills, etc)
D. Do we need to have valid registration on 5th wheel if we are taking out a loan?

We realize that most will say, contact the local authorities for the above answers. Well we tried that. Even face to face. We came away with more questions then answers.

Thank you in advance for your help and thoughts on this issue.

A. Do we need to register the 5th wheel if we do it plan on traveling? Assume you meant that you do NOT plan on traveling. If so there is no need to register it, just like a park model.
B. Do we need to pay personal property tax ? Don't know anything about SC pp tax, but it would be hard for the taxing authorities to even know it exists with no registration.
C. We will be using daughters address so how would we acquire SC drivers license without proof of residence. (Utility bills, etc) If your daughter has the same last name as you it should be easy to piggy back off of her residency as a family member. Otherwise use her address just like you would use an address for a rental house. In effect you are renting her propety (but paying nothing) and living there. Maybe draw up a no cost rental agreement that she and you sign.
D. Do we need to have valid registration on 5th wheel if we are taking out a loan? Don't know. I suspect yes.

Sweet Carolina

It depends a lot on the county and most are in transition on this issue. With the boom in container homes, mini homes, tiny houses and Boxable ADUs the code officials are scrambling to figure it out. Immense pressure from the MH industry is pouring gas on the fire. Lexington County is fine with tiny houses (up to 6 per acre???) That was last week and included fully contained (full bathroom) non motorized RV only. Three surrounding counties say NO to tiny, container and ADUs. One county that recently permitted a nice RV park allows Park Models but banned Tiny Houses. If a septic tank is involved the additional bedroom may exceed the number originally permitted for. A friend added a detached garage apartment two years ago and DHEC required a separate cabin tank installed. If you are rural and can fly under the radar...silence is golden. Loan will require registration. Property tax based on county and school district. This is a great place to buy No Sales Tax just a flat $500 Infrastructure Maintenance Fee. Fiat 500 or Ferrari F4T same $500 but when the property tax bill comes due you may need a second mortgage for the Ferrari taxes. Six years ago taxes were over $600 on my Coachman CC My new 3500HD SRW DC $1428 in property taxes and on and on and on. My CC now lives in Florida tax free. In 6 months the truck and the Columbus 329DVC that it is dragging will move to Florida and when I turn in the SC tags I will get a pro rated portion of my property taxes back and celebrate with a big bowl of cereal and some really good bourbon.

I don't know nothing about SC law, but would assume if you finance the fifth wheel the financing institution will require it to be titled (in my home state you can title a vehicle/trailer, etc and not put license plates on it), We are currently in Florida but maintain our residence at our son's house in Missouri. We don't take the rig back, so all we use it for is voting, paying property taxes, etc.

Sounds like you need to speak to the supervisor of what ever county offices you are contacting. Someone there is not doing their jobs if they couldn't answer your questions.
