Grand Design Mishap

My buddy sent me these photos of a Grand Design Solitude. It appears the whole back end just fell off. Does this belong to anyone here on this site? I'd like to know the story on this! Real bummer!

Unfortunate indeed, crumby photos too! I will reserve comment not knowing any of the details. My sympathy to anyone involved.

Be well.

So any theories from the armchair experts? I'd say looking at the damage to the rear edge of the roof, he backed it into something that struck and pushed down on the rear edge of the roof-wall.

I have no clue how you arrived at that answer! It looks to me that when the back wall fell away the trim pulled down and the wall is still hanging by that trim. That is the reason for the possible sagging roof. Also once the endwall is gone there is no center support at the end for the roof!

If he had backed into something we would see evidence on the unfortunate rear wall.

I'm looking at the tear in the roofing. I'm thinking he hit something that was just overhanging the rear edge, like a curved tree limb. It wouldn't have hit the rear wall at all. Then he pulled away and tore the wall off. No way that fell off just driving down the road. We'll probably never know ...

So then you are saying he drove it this way from where ever you think he backed into something? Not a chance in hell. That back wall is barely hanging by trim and wouldn't the back show drag marks if it happened like you surmise?

I believe this if from a year or so ago and the back hadn't been attached fully at the factory. I remember reading there had only been a few screws holding it on. The worker must have placed enough screws to keep it in place, gone to lunch or home and forgot to finish the job when he got back.

No this happened the day I posted it. My buddy who also owns a fifth wheel was driving by and noticed it and snapped the photos. He didn't stop to ask what happened.

After looking at the photos a little closer it appears there's damage to the driver's side rear quarter panel. I also noticed there's no license plate attached. Could be a brand new unit or being transported from one of the dealerships near by.
