Have truck, camper. Now hitch

Purchased an Alliance 340 RL (16,500 GVWR) soon to have 2019 Chev Silverado 3500 DRW w gooseneck pocket (B&W), no pucks. Thinking the 20k Companion for gooseneck looks pretty good. Anybody have any experience w sim setup, know of any gotchas waiting out there? Have seen a couple mentions of bed height issues, but the BWRVK3500 seems to have some adjustment avail. Good reviews and all that, and really want to go get that camper and drag it home - but want to minimize the drama!

Congratulations on your new gear. Your hitch choice sounds like a good plan. There are more comfortable options but the Rota-Flex pin box should provide some cushioning.

Have truck, camper. Now hitch

Congrats on the new rig.
I’m on my second B&W Companion. First was the same hitch you described with the B&W turnover Gooseneck platform in the the truck. Used it for 3 yrs, A++ all the way.

Only reason I’m on hitch #2 is the new truck has the pucks so I couldn’t use the prior hitch. bought the puck version of the same hitch w/o even considering anything else. 3 yrs on this hitch now and the same thumbs up for sure.

That hitch will have as much height adjustment as about any other you could find. You’ll also have some adjustment on your pin box if needed, so you should be able to overcome any bed clearance concerns and stay close to or at level for the trailer unless the truck has been modified/lifted which I doubt if it has been used previously for towing GN or 5er.

My trailer’s gross is 15.5k and I had the Rota Flex pin box until last year; made for a nice smooth ride. Now have a Flex Air pin box and can’t tell of any real ride improvement for me, but I’m sure the trailer likes it a little better.

One word of caution….although it comes out in 2 pieces when necessary, that base is big and heavy…..(if you have to lift it too often by yourself, your babies may be born naked.)

Happy Trails,

Since you already have a goose ball, have you considered replacing your pin box on your trailer?

Reece Goosebox is an air ride hitch and Gen-Y has a torsion ride hitch.

My previous trailer was a gooseneck so I had to make the choice of what to do. I do use the bed of my truck a lot and did not want to pull a 5th wheel hitch in and out.

I went with the Reece Goosebox and have been happy with it. The only thing I do not like is having to check the air pressure each time I hook up. On my new truck I have built in air hose on a reel so it is not as big of a deal. I would strongly consider a Gun-Y in the future.
