Hehr vertical slider - how to reinstall the locking bar at the top of the window

I have Hehr vertical slider windows that have a metal bar that has the window lock lever in the middle of it and a slot on the bottom of the bar that fits over a rubber gasket that in turn is attached to the top of the sliding window pane. These windows are perhaps a foot wide and the vertical sliding window pane is about a foot high.

On one window the metal bar with rubber gasket came off - and I am looking for the correct way to reinstall it.

I tried placing the rubber gasket on the glass -it is in good shape and fits onto the glass nicely - then with my hands - tried to push the metal bar down over the rubber gasket - no go.

I also tried placing the rubber gasket inside the metal bar and then trying to fit it on top of the glass - but could not see if I had it in correct alignment - and again - no go.

I'd rather not learn the 'hard way' of the 'wrong way' to reinstall that metal bar - so I thought I would ask if anyone has done it. I can supply photos if desired.
