A B&W Turnover Ball coupled to a Gen-Y 5th Wheel Pin Box:

Few moving parts, empty bed, torsion cushioning, no need for pucks.

Thank you all for the great advice.

I like the simplicity, the extra room and the significant reduction in weight of the ball and torsion pin box system.

Are there any disadvantages? Is this type of connection less robust and therefore less safe?

One negative might be the required safety chains. With a dually, crawling into the bed at each end of a trip to deal with the chains might be a pain.

Pretty moot point unless you are boondocking a lot; the lean angles and bedrail clearances act differently when the pivot point is close to the bed as opposed to being higher as with a standard hitch. Just be aware if backing in a lumpy situation.
