Hitch for Newmar Kountry Aire

I have a 1997 Newmar Kountry Aire fifth wheel. The trailer is 36', 3 axle, with an 18,000 GVWR.

The trailer weighs 13,200 empty and the way we have it loaded it weighs 15,700 lbs.

Total length from front pickup bumper to rear trailer bumper is 52'. I just built a 12'-6" trailer to tow the quads behind the trailer, and yes I have a class A with doubles/triples endorsement.

I need to install a hitch on the rear of the trailer to tow the quad trailer. Curt hitches has a trailer hitch with a 3,500 lb tow rating and a 350 lb hitch load.

Has anyone installed one of these on the back of their trailer? I need the one for I beam trailer frame.

Thanks,
Andy

Howdy,
Curious if you’ve considered building your own receiver hitch for your Newmar? Sounds like you built the trailer for the quads…..correct?

I built a receiver hitch for my first 5er and pulled my boat behind it quite a bit. Did the same for a friend who towed double some also.

Just a thought to consider; you can customize the fit to look nice and clean….ie. not hanging too low, tucked in too far, sticking out too far, etc.

I’ll be glad to share the general design concepts and type of materials I used if interested…..feel free to message me.

Happy Trails,

hitch

Universal hitch #1801125 from Buyers Products

I think Tractor Supply sells them.

Installed one on my 2013 Cedar Creek.

I added the angle iron reinforcements to make it stronger.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I am building a trailer for the quads. It is almost done. I just ordered a hitch from Curtis, and it is for an I-beam frame. It's a little different that the picture above. I called Newmar and they had no problem with adding a receiver on the rear to tow a trailer. They suggested keeping the weight below 5,000 lbs. My trailer with the quads loaded will weigh 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 250 - 350 lbs.

Thanks again,
Andy
