Jshopes81 - what year trucks are you using to tow 25,000lbs? The brand new trucks (2020) have more capability power and smoothness. There is a redesigned Ram in 2019, Redesigned GM in 2020, and a heavily revised Ford for 2020.

The newest were 18s and 19s. Im not aware of any 2020s yet but my opinion on that wont change.

Agreed. I have a 2020 F350. If you reserve 20% of payload capacity for occupants and gear. Then figure a 20% tongue weight that puts max 5ver at 21k. I never want to run at max weights so we ordered a 19k GVWR 5ver.

My take on it is that a vehicle with air ride will go down the road much smoother than these oversprung pickuos being put out today. Add to that youre getting more truck and its a no brainer. A 550 or 5500 will have a garbage ride, theres no getting around that. Ive cooked an aisin pulling less with a 5500

We are looking to move from a Newmar 40’ Class A Gasser to a 5th wheel.

This would be a FT home for us. We are looking at a DRV Houston or a couple of other mfg (Luxe) in similar floor plans.

We looked at new F350s today at a local dealer. The door sticker says the GVWR for the one we looked at is 14,000 lbs. We also saw a 2019 F450 at an incredible discount...same GVWR. The 2020 F350 drove much better than the F450...equipped as Lariats both.

How do we start to make heads or tails of if this F350 is capable of pulling a rig the size of the DRV Houston? The GVWR of the Houston is 24,000 (memory).

Thanks for your help and direction and instruction. I have pictures of the trucks we test drove today so I can give all the info on actual #s.

We really are looking to move to 5ver and need direction.

If you really want to know why dont you get the towing specs from the dealer or mfg and read them. Forget about getting the opinions from the expert wannabes. Get the facts.

I did the same, moved from a 40ft MH to a 41ft 5th wheel. Pulling with a Ford F350 diesel DRW. The GVWR is not the number i think you're looking for. Go onto the Ford site and drill down into specs for that truck. The maximum 5th wheel towing weight is 32,500. i'm pulling a Pinnacle 2018 FBTS with the long bed crew cab with the factory puck system, B&W hitch. Pulls great with factory suspension. no complaints.
