Tetons and New Horizons are heavy - into MDT territory. If looking in that arena, look for a Travel Supreme - they are just as well built, but run a little shorter and lighter.

If looking newer, I'd suggest looking at a used Riverstone or used/new Cedar Creek Champagne.

A word of caution, most of the custom build are very heavy. A 3500 might not be enough truck. See I tow my Teton with an HDT

If looking for a used unit I would agree with some listed so far but might add the Carriage line ( Original Carriage not the new Crossroads ) or even the earlier Lifestyles. Travel Supreme would be another as well as a Petersons Excel. If looking new we have a River Stone Legacy and have been very pleased with it with very little issues. Good luck on your search.

Hands down used New Horizon. Everyone is custom built and they are heavy for their size. Very nice unit but you may need a larger tow vehicle than you were planning.

Second choice Artic Fox. One of the best built mass produced units out there. Reason you can’t find them on lots is they sell before getting to dealers.

Take a few weekend trips to see one before you buy. You will find the time is well spent. Pictures only can be deceiving

Enjoy the journey

Not sure where you live but there's NW Fox'x for sale on every dealers lot here in Oregon. Not every model but thats because Northwood only builds 3 models at a time which they spread out between their camper, TT and 5er lines.

My fav for a 5th wheel is the Vanleigh Beacon and Vilano. The Becaon can be had for around 100 grand discounted and the Vilano is discounted into the 70s. Built by the members of the family that build Tiffin motor homes.

We bought a used 08 Carriage Cameo and have had good luck with it. We were shopping for a Montana fifth wheel, and when the salesman showed us a recently acquired Cameo, the quality showed through. The benefit of a used RV besides depreciation is the $$ saved can be put toward improvements you want.

Okay, so you want higher quality than a mass produced RV, lots of storage especially in the kitchen, attention to both function and form.... Have you looked into tiny houses? You can have them built as you want and customized to your exact specifications. You can very easily get them in a gooseneck design instead of the standard bumper pull design. And yes, goosenecks are better than 5th wheels in just about every way. (I happen to know from my own research that you can get a 36 foot total length gooseneck trailer designed for a tiny house with 21,000 pound ratings built for you for about $8,000. Extending the length to the 40+ feet you seem interested in wouldn't be too much more.)

The downside is that tiny homes are a bit heavy. In the size it seems like you're looking at, you'll be pushing 18,000 pounds or more. Maybe even in the low 20's. You'll need a big truck to tow it, like F450 territory or similar. No little 3/4 ton will work for you. With $100,000, you could get a 4 or 5 year old truck capable of towing it, and still have $65,000 for the house. You could build an absolutely gorgeous one yourself for that kind of money, or you could spend the whole $100,000 on one built for you and finance the truck.

To answer your question directly, If I had an extra $100,000, I'd buy put it into Canadian dollars and just wait for the impending recession to hit. IIRC the exchange rate is about 1.3 CAD to 1 USD so I'd have about $130,000 CAD. When the recession hits, that ratio will probably flip, giving me back about $170,000 in the heart of a recession when everything is dirt cheap because everyone else is broke. That puts me almost doubling my money during a recession. The best part is that the worse the recession is, the better the return is. If we go into a full blown depression, you could walk away with $300,000 or more just because you transferred your USD to CAD.

Better plan on buying an MDT or a class 8 rig to haul those heavy beasts around . I don't think a dually will cut it on a NH

You might find a dealer that has both the 32-5m and 35-5Z in stock and then fly/drive to make a final choice. That is what we had to do. Then I went to the one dealer in Texas that I could place a order and in 7 months had the unit. We could not decide between the two so having both on the same lot gave us a direct comparison. The 5Z has lots of room. The island is big enough if you want to add a dishwasher aftermarket. We chose the smaller fridge so we could get the pantry and large pot drawer below. I was comfortable with the 10 cu/ft fridge as my Newmar and Alpenlite both had a 9. We have never needed more room. Aside from Northwood I would look at the Forest River Riverstone Legacy. Not the typical unit as it has an all steel deck. Still a lippert frame and not an in-house like Northwood but fairly well made as Lippert goes. Fit and finish has been really good for the 3 or 4 units I have crawled through. Nuwa, Excell, Lifestyles and Forks were the last good ones to go so you might find a fairly recent unit out there. The Forks that was on the link is phenomenal if you want something that long. I always considered them the best of the customs. If you can find a mint Newmar(Mountain or Kountry), Carriage (Numbered, Royals or Carri lite), Travel Supreme, Alpenlite Villa, Teton, Nuwa(not HH2's), Spacecraft, New Horizons, Automate, Citation or Sunnybrook Titan you would have a well built unit. Before the merger I really liked the Luxe. I have heard conflicting reports since. mainly with other products that the company makes. A Luxe Elite is still a heck of a unit. Good luck.
