I knew at some point something would be spilled near a floor mounted heating vent. So after I bought this rig I removed the floor vent covers and installed a piece of wire screen to the bottom so it would stop at least the big pieces from falling through into the vent ducts. I'll have to confess it was me who dropped the cereal box this morning. But at least nothing fell through into the ducts! I dread the time when liquid is spilled. Again, the builders of these things (RV's) do things the easiest and cheapest way. Building the vents on the walls would be the smartest way to prevent a spill disaster from running into the heating ducts. We have a Montana FL3730. When we were shopping for this rig I looked at a Grand Design Solitude model that did have the vents in the wall instead of in the floor. Smart.

I think it would have been fun to turn on the furnace and try to catch the cereal in my mouth. Life is just too short to be serious.

Just let your "Fur Babies sit next to the vent and turn the furnace fan on and watch them play catch.........

When we ordered our 1998 5ver, I called the factory and asked that they move the furnace vent from the floor in front of the stove into the kick panel. He said they can't as the design has already been approved (by RVIA, or somebody) and can't be changed. Easiest, cheapest; and those who design these things NEVER use them!!

Whew!

In my basement model S&B the upstairs vents are in the floor.
But it doesn't have wheels.

The furnace almost always blows "down" into the duct work so stuff spilled into registers couldn't get into the furnace. Adding screen can restrict airflow causing the unit to overheat and trip the thermostat.

Our Grand Design Momentum has ducts in walls as well. Previous Jayco had floor. Like the Grand Design placement much better. [emoji1]

My DRV came with a air mattress and when set up covers three vents on the floor.

Mine does. Main ductwork is under the house. All ductwork on ground floor is in the floor. Upstairs vents on one the wall.

In my Newmar I have two vents in the floor. The rest are in the base of cabinets where it’s practice to run ductwork.

Sorry for hi-jacking this thread, butr I have a question about vents. I have two floor vents in the living area, one in front of the 'daybed' at rear of unit and a second right in the middle of the living area where everybody walks. The vent cover is pushed in from foot traffic. My question is ,, when I recarpet I'd like to close off the 'center' vent and increase the size of the vent in front of the sofa bed. Probably not double the size but make it bigger to allow more air flow. Anybody do this ?

Interesting. That would cause a small reduction and therefore maybe send more heat forward. In my case that would be a good thing.

When you put the vent in the wall you lose significant insulation behind the duct and vent. That is why they try for interior walls in a S&B with a basement furnace.

Toe kick registers are essentially floor mounted for the supply so no significant loss in insulation. What heat is lost helps keep the floor/basement warm.

We have a couple of floor mounts in the S&B. It's quite common.
