Exclamation Incompatability between 2020 Chevy stock brake controller & Dexter GBH brake Modual

Ray O’Hern,CA -currently located in Elkhart,IN
ISSUE:
2020 Chevy truck does not recognize Dexter GBH brake modual in our new 5th wheel. That means we currently have no brakes on our 5th wheel. The truck does not see the 5th wheel. Any advice resolving this incompatabilty would be appreciated. Tx

Not sure what you mean by GBH. Assuming you mean EOH, i.e., electric over hydraulic?

If true, you may need what is called a Controller Adapter Module (CAM). Google "HBA-CAM".

Been there done that. Had to add a CAM to my RV with EOH brakes for my previous gen GMC pickup to recognize the RV brakes. Some may tell you various makes/models of pickups don't need a CAM, and that may very well be true, but my RV brakes would not work without a CAM.

And not only did I need a CAM for my RV brakes to work, my original HydraStar actuator (hydraulic pump) had failed from the factory. Brand new RV too. So don't rule that out either.

You're welcome. And welcome to the forum. Hang around a while. Lots of great info.

My CAM is mounted right next to the brake actuator in the front bay on my RV. Vanleigh covered the cost of the CAM and installation in my case, which sort of surprised me. It's not terribly expensive though either way.

It's wired in parallel with the brake actuator (I recall seeing a schematic at the etrailer website or elsewhere; am sure one comes with the CAM too). Simple splicing of one or two wires as I recall.

The CAM essentially offers resistance, mimicking the magnets found in a conventional drum brake system on an RV.

I just converted our Eagle this spring to EOH disc brakes.
The CAM was like $90.00 cdn.
You patch it into the brake wires coming in from the truck.
The install instructions from Dexter or Titan said it is needed on all newer Ford and GM trucks.
I will never run a large trailer with electric drum brakes again!

I have a 2020 GMC HD and the controller works with the titan actuator perfect. If it’s a new trailer it may be something other than the truck. Have the wiring on the trailer checked as well.God knows they never make mistakes at the factory.

Som RV manufacturers have in their specs, to this day, that the CAM is required for GM trucks with their EOH brake system.
