Installing Winegard Travler on 5th Wheel

I have a Winegard Travler satellite dish that I took off a motor home that I had before going back to a new 2014 Montana 3725 5th Wheel RV. A local satellite installation specialist told me that it can't be installed on a 5th Wheel because there is no way to get 110 volt power to it and no place to run the coax cables into the box on the outside of the left front side of the 5th Wheel where the connections are located. He convinced me to buy a portable Winegard dome to use, which I did. My problem is that I am a subscriber to DirecTV and I won't be able to record programs I would like to see with the dome. Has anyone installed a Winegard Travler dish on a 5th Wheel and how did you solve the power and coax problems? Thanks.

I have a Traveler SK-3003 on my motorhome. On mine the power to the Traveler comes from the control/power supply box that turns it on and off that is in the cabinet the satellite receiver is. The Traveler does not use 110 volts. The power to the Traveler is supplied through the same cable the receiver gets it's signal. I was able to run the cable from the roof into the cabinet and use the cable cover plate that come with the Traveler. Do you still have the manual for the Travler? If you don't here's the SK-3003 here is the manual.

I don't have a fifth wheel, but I have seen the more than one fifth wheel with a Traveler on the roof.

I am about to take delivery of my new Bay Hill and had a Winegard Trav'ler sk-1000 (Dish network version)installed on the roof and wired up. The Trav'ler is made to be installed on all RV coaches. Usually the RV shop runs the wires into the roof and down to where the tv is. You should call any RV dealer for help.....I know camping world will install it for you.

It is easy to install the antenna running the cables can be a pain but still do able. 1st rule make sure you know exactly what you want it to do and that it can be done. That way you can run all the correct cables the 1st time. All too often customers pay for the basic install and then show up with several DVR receivers that can't all be hooked up because no one knew that was what they wanted. On Direct the antenna can support up to 8 receivers with the right splitter. A DVR is 2 receivers. You only need to run 2 cables to the antenna unit one from the control box and one from the splitter. Everything else can be done from inside the unit.

Good point 1mainiac. I shoulda mentioned that in my post. Mine on my new coach is being custom wired with all 4 feed wires from dish going into the front basement and all tv location wires going there also with home runs, no splitters in between, that way I can do my own headend and route and change my wires as I need them. I also made sure they had 2 coax from the living room to the headend because there will be a dvr in the living room. Always have your receiver and tv locations figured out before you have the dish installed so you can have them wire it as needed.

If this is a new install for DirecTV, (SK-SWM3) there is only one coax to run. If you're getting 4 coax cables run, then you are also buying an old SK-3005 antenna. If that is the case, make sure you're getting a really good deal on it, enough to add the SWM-840 kit so you can use it with the current generation receivers.

Mine is not Directv and you are correct, there are 3 feeds from the dish on the sk-1000, not 4 (i installed home theaters too long, sorry) like a home dish. These days with newer equipment you do only need one run for a dual tuner, BUT you still need another run back to the head end (or second room) for the secondary tv feed from that receiver, if thats your setup. My point was I am wiring for multiple setup options at my discretion. With everything home run to one location, I can split to feed two tv's off one tuner or add a multiswitch for new tv locations......whatever I need its easy to do. Enjoy!

OK. Good deal! Yes the SK-100 has 3 coax outputs, and running all three gives you the most flexibility.

I just wanted to give you a heads up if you were getting a SK-3005 installed, instead of an SK-SWM3...
