Intimidated New Owner

Have had a bumper pull for awhile, but just got a new fifth wheel today.

Has lots of bells and whistles, and the simple stuff scares me. My driveway is sloped about 8 inches front to back.

I have auto leveling, but was told not to lift the tires off the ground. If I unhook in my driveway, will I be OK?

If I hook the 50 app system to a 15 app plug in my garage, will I have enough juice to level and put out slides? They are hydraulics.

Forest River Silver back 29OK.

I know it will eventually be OK, but geeeez. [emoji2]

I'd chock the wheels since you're on a bit of a slope. The 15amp to 50amp will easily handle running the level up and slides. It will also keep the battery charged. After a couple of trips you'll have it all figured out.

Yep, there is a learning curve with any new to you vehicle or RV. Read the manuals to start with, then practice what they say a few times in your driveway before heading out.

Slope front to back won't lift wheels off the ground. Like everyone is saying, use chocks.

I probably have an even greater slope in my driveway. I cut some 2x10 blocks and place 4 each side in the front, 2 each side in the center ND and none in the rear. My Lippert system will not Auto Retract at those angles (you get a function disabled message) but, a mutual Retract works fine. 15 amps will run the frig and keep the batteries charged. 50 amp should run anything you got. 😎

Lawyers said not to lift the tires off the ground to change a tire or do maintenance on the unit.

If you press the auto level button and it happens to lift the tires off the ground on one side (side to side unlevel) it will be just fine. I've had several times both tires on the same side were off the ground and no problems.

Go to YouTube and search Lippert Auto Level and watch a couple of videos. It is a very nice system to have once you learn it's shortcomings.

I have a Bigfoot and it will lift the entire rig off the ground with no problems. It has been handy for changing tires or bearings. Use your chocks and you should be fine. I have also found that if you are on a bit of side slope to dig a shallow hole in from of the tires on the high side and ease the rig into the hole. That will stop a lot of lifting the tire off the ground. this is not easy to do on a concrete slab but then they should be close to level.

Thanks everybody. Lippert videos were very helpful. Have two shake down trips in the next two weeks. Loving the new rug, just needed time for the learning curve.

Are you sure those slides are hydraulic? We have 3 slides, 2 are one kind and the wardrobe slide is different, but neither are hydraulic. Very nice RV by the way! Sure hope you took the 50Amp option. One AC won't keep you cool during the summer down at the White River/Bull Shoals State Park or Quarry Park...

Our slides are all hydraulic as is the leveling system.

We do have 50 app, but one AC. Wasn't an issue when it was 90 at the house, but only plugged into 15 app porch outlet, so I didn't run anything else.
