I've deleted my post on this thread as it seems that the O.P. has shifted gears and decided against the Grand Designs 5ver as it would be too much trailer for his truck. Sorry for the confusion.

I towed a 7,000 lb TT with a 2013 F150 Crew Cab with the 5.0. Was actually a lot of work on the driver. Locked out 6th gear and towed in 5th even on the east coast flat roads. The slight rises for overpasses almost always required downshift to 4th if trying to hold speed. Had to really anticipate and manually downshift if traffic was heavy and was trying to stay with the flow of traffic.

Your truck's tow rating is based on axle ratio. For 2015, per Trailer Life Towing Guide, depending on specific model, the 3.31 axle is good for 9k lbs, the 3.55 is rated around 10k lbs and the 3.73 ratio rated around 11k lbs. If the truck is out of warranty and 2WD, cost to have a speed shop swap gears may be worth considering. Will make for more comfortable towing. Even if your truck model doesn't have a factory option for the 3.73 ratio, it is still an option.

Is there something better out there that will work better for my truck??
The Escape 5.0 TA is a perfect 1/2 ton 5th wheel RV match IMO...

I would look at travel trailers if it were me. With a tongue weight percentage of 13% you can tow a lot more trailer than you can a 5er which has a pin weight of 20% and more. And with proper set up and a good hitch with built in sway control like the Equa-lizer 4 point or Blue ox sway pro it will tow well.

Is there a reason you are set on a 5er? You would have to limit yourself to 5ers that weigh less than 8000 pounds gross to make it work and even then you would be pushing the envelope.

Have you weighed your truck? I had close to that payload (1790) on my 2011 F150 eco-boost but when I weighed it with me and a full gas tank it was only 1460. Don't trust the sticker! Not too many fifth wheels with that small of a pin weight, if any. Gave up on that and bought a dually and a Landmark 365!
