Landing Gear Failure

I was hooking up the other day, and the drivers side landing gear made a big pop and released. Lucky the other side held. I was able to get it to work after a few minutes and got the rig hooked up. When we arrived home after what was a RV'er's nighmare. 2 blowouts, and a flat on a new tire as we were pulling into our driveway. When I went to unhook, the jack would only go down so far, so finally managed to get it unhooked, after I stacked a set of concrete blocks under that side and then lowered it back down to the blocks. I am fairly mechanical and can repair most things. My main question is, how do I identify the brand of landing gear I have? Crossroads was bought out several years ago and the new owners maintained no records of previous models. Also, would I be better off to buy a set and replace both or just the one..They have always raised and lowered slower than I think is normal...

There may be a manufacturers tag on the landing leg drive motor ; if not ;post a couple of pictures of the drive motor and gear reduction box / leg , and we'll try and figure it out.

The loud pop was prob the pin that connects the motor to the adjoining arm that rotates the other side.

Sounds like the threads stripped on the internal leg rod.

I am pretty sure it was the big nut inside the leg that the threaded rod turns in. Every thing i have seen on line, makes me believe that and the fact the leg dropped and won't go up or down now...

From what I am reading and watching on line, apparently there is no way to lubricate the threaded rod inside the tube. I have seen some suggestion putting a grease zert in there and forcing grease in and on and around the rod...My question is why not just drill a 1/4 hole in the square tube, and take a can of white lithimum grease in a spray can and put the little tube in the hole and spray grease on the rod....put a small rubber plug in the hole and do this a couple times a year....

Got the broken leg out, not really a problem, just took leg and motor out as a unit rather than try and get the motor off in the compartment. The leg actually had a grease zerk in it, but was facing the front wall of the compartment and no way to get a grease gun on it...still had all the factory black paint on it...The big nut is definitely stripped out, treaded rod will slip several inches before grabbing...got the measurement of the jack. so off to find a replacement. May just buy two and replace both, that way I know they are good...

Well, after getting the leg off and in my shop and disassembled, the big nut was completely stripped as well as a couple of places on the threaded rod. So, contacted Venture Mfg, in Dayton, Oh and after several emails with one of the sales people, have decided to take a chance with a set that is on Amazon, they have great reviews and some even say they have replaced what they assume are Venture legs, but find no label on them as I did(suppose to be a label with model and serial number under top cap). I contacted e=trailer via email, since I am in and out and sometimes miss calls and don't want to play phone tag. But so far I have gotten no response from them, which is unusual, as usually get an answer in the short time. Contacted some of the local RV dealers, no one has any legs in stock.. Has been an experience for sure, NOW: What is the best way to grease the treaded rod to be sure this don't happen again...also is it a good idea to lubricate the inside tube and the one with the holes in it? I was thinking might be a good way to mess up a jack if they get dirty....

Changed my mind and ordered a complete set from etrailer.com. Got new gear box and connecting rod, etc. price was better too, and free shipping. So now to wait and hopefully by next Wed, they will be installed and i can move onto getting new tires. Think I am going to go with the Hercules, good load and speed ratings.
