Landing Legs

Is there a chance that the cartridge valve at the front landing could be failing at three years old? because the nose of the RV is losing height small amounts. I am getting popping sounds and it bugs me. I have drained down the quart out of the tank and added the "Fork oil" no help still popping.
Den.

Uhhh more infor please. By your statement it sounds like you have hydraulic landing gear? What type of hydraulic oil did you use? Draining a little out and adding more does nothing. It sounds like you have a cylinder seal leaking. To repair it, take it off take it to a compentent hydraulic cylinder shop and habe it resealed. Thats much more common issue rather than a valve failure.

For whats involved in hydraulic cylinders you could do it yourself in less time than it takes to drive to a shop if youve gotsome basic hand tools. Hydraulic systems are really simple.

A big tell is wether or not you are seeing oil leaking out somewhere. If an inline valve is leaking internally, that won't leave any trail. But if you have an external leak, and in most cases, a cylinder leak, you will find oil where it does not belong. If your cylinders are not extending far enough, you need to check the fluid level, and if low, figure out where the oil went and top off the reservoir.

Landing legs

I have placed a indicator on one of the legs this morning to watch how much the nose drops in a day has moved .
I have cribbing under the frame it is getting snug.
I do not see any leaks any were but I do see some weeping at some crimps.
For the sake of $85.00 bucks I think I will buy a new valve it cant be holding the oil back?
What do you reckon?
Den.

The check valve may well be leaking off. If it is dropping and no oil showing up anywhere. Another way to check would be to carefully mark the oil level in your reservoir and see if they oil level raises as it falls down.

Is your hydraulic reservoir full when everything is retracted, could be low on fluid

landing legs

I have a new Cartridge Valve for the front legs to go in, would the legs drop when I undo the old valve? so I am thinking to make sure my cribbing is in place.
What do you reckon?

I reckon there should be some kind of check valve in place on the hydraulics so that in the event of a ruptured line the legs dont collapse. Thats how cranes are built anyway and its a similar system. Any time we have to do any work on them we have to take the weight off the outrigger that the valve needs changed on so its in a neutral position and thats about what i would do here.
