After 40 years of camping I have never seen anyone come out with a tape measure to check the length of your RV. Not even the police. Don't worry about it. All the RV's I've had measure longer than what the manual says. I think they measure the floor and not th real out length. Mine says 42 feet, but when I took a measurement I found I'm 46 feet. This is from the front mirrors to the far back.

It took me a while to figure out but from my understanding most, if not all RVs are quoting "usable" interior space. In our case in the 5th wheel it means from inside and up to the closet doors at the front of the 5er all the way to the rear cabinet doors at the kitchen. Ours says it's a 29' but it's a 32' overall end to end outside.

Most travel trailers seem to add about 4' overall depending on how the bumpers are set up.

Part of the detailed specifications for any rig is the OVERALL dimensions. L x W x H x lbs

Ignore them at your peril!

A 40' 5er is well into MONSTER category. Lots of those beautiful SPs & NPs will no longer be in your travel plans dragging a 40' behemoth behind you. Your LOA will be 60' plus.

Lots of SPs talk about a 30' limit however most are flexible to a degree. Size does matter, however your own flexibility in not needing to be over the pad to use rear stabilisers & your own skill in getting into tight spots make a difference.

A site that needs considerable skill on the part of driver & spotter working together with a 32 or 34' 5er will be impossible, no matter the skill, with the 40'er. Keep that in mind.
