Good Morning Everyone,

We tow with a 2011 Dodge 6.7L crew cab long box 4x4 with a 3.73 rear end and we presently have an Arctic Fox 295T. We need the 3rd slide and a few more feet. I was leaning towards trading the truck off for a dually so that we could tow a bigger and maybe better 5th wheel. Economy dictates that I ask you all for your opinion so please, have at it! What is the bigger and better 5th wheel that I can safely tow with that rig????? The emphasis should be on better and only slightly longer! Thank you all so much, in advance

You don't say, so I assume you have a 2500? IMHO if this is the case you are already at your limit with what you have. You want more trailer, you NEED more truck. Bite the bullet, get a dually, or stick with what you have.

What Don says is about spot on. We pulled a Hitchhiker at 13,200 gross with a 3/4 ton Dodge and was about at my comfort limit and I've been towing since the late 60s. We upgraded the trailer like you want, a few feet. Didn't even consider the 3/4 for the load and went to a dually/

Dually required and if you want better look at Excel, Carriage, Nuwa, Mobile Suites, Hitchhiker, New Horizons. Some of these are out of business, but top quality and you should be able to pick up at a reasonable cost. They will be heavy though, but your used to that with your AF.

I tow the Big Country with my F250 and its the best I ever had for comfort mileage and loaded. We carry everything with a huge basement. Even have the W/D and full water tank. Did 15K miles so far. I cannot tow the upper lines of Heartland due to heavier pin weights.

I towed two different Heartland Bighorns with my '02 GMC 2500 and it did just fine. Both were in the 14,000 lb. range. When I moved up to the Landmark, a 16,000 lb. rated trailer, I moved up to a Dodge 3500 dually. Love the stability of the dually.

That's a good list if you're looking for a full-time rig. Don't be afraid to look at a clean, well-maintained used top line 5th wheel. You'll get a lot more bang for the buck than with a new lesser 5th wheel, the bugs should already be worked out, and the first owner has taken the depreciation "hit" for you.

We've been looking at the Heartland Bighorn. They have several models that would fit your truck just fine. Also Keystone Avalanche is a good choice. I wouldn't look past the ones that max out at 14,000 pounds - might be too much weight for your truck.
