Nothing wrong with a PROPERLY DESIGNED gooseneck hitch however let me tell you the story of a trip to Love's truck stop and that tragic and fateful day (Ok Ok so I like to re-write songs this one is M T A).

Poor guy converted his 4er into a Gooseneck by extending the king pin down and attaching a ball hitch adapter.. Well he did a panic stop.. Tore the pin box all to ... Scrap Metal.. So he was stuck till he got a new pin box.

WHY: Well it has to do with the one word (Torque) and one phrase (Moment of force) the pin box could not handle it with that LONG gooseneck adapter.. A 5th wheel hitch would not have noticed the strain.

And oh yes the trailer brakes worked.

So I'd go with a 5th wheel .. Way Way Stronger hitch.

Oh, the rest of the fun day at the truck stop
guy pulling a 38' Ceader creek 5er fuels up. But instead of taking an outer pump like I do with my Class A he pulls in the middle, Pulling out he turns a bit.. Too Soon. and CRUNCH.. Hits the concrete bumper and tears one side of the rear cap off. Does he stop and secure it? OF COURSE NOT.

If you don't end up Anderson, I'd recommend a Curt QXX hitch. Nice unit with interlocking jaws, fairly lightweight, and not that expensive.

If removing the rails doesn't make a mess I'd vote for the B&W Companion. I've been very happy with mine pulling a 17.4K trailer equipped with a Demco Glide Ride pinbox. Happy Trails.
