Need a new hitch

Just bought a 2011 Chevy 3500 Dually duramax 4x4 to replace my old 2004 Ford F-350 6.0 diesel we are upgrading to a fifth wheel from a travel trailer. The units we are looking at are seem to be between 16000 and 17000 gross weight . The 2011 Chevy has fifth wheel rails already installed but also has a gooseneck ball set up already installed as well my question is what hitch do you think will best suit my application.

I just put a Curt 25,000 lb hitch in my Ram 3500 DRW. Dropped right into the factory rail (puck) system. Seemed to be the best value and had great reviews. Will be using it for the first time tomorrow.

B&W hitch, it will fit right into your gooseneck ball, and you will never have an issue with hooking or unhooking.

Agree with Wildcatter. I found a B&W Companion on Craigslist for $500. Works wonderfully!

To use a B&W Companion hitch you will have to remove the hitch rails which would be a pain and leave a bunch of unused holes in your truck bed. The hitch was designed for a B&W Turnover Ball system and your gooseneck ball may not work. If set on a B&W hitch they do make an 18K Patriot which will mount right to your existing rails.

Soon the Andersen Ultimate Hitch people will join in. It deserves a look as does the Pullrite equivalent. You didn't mention short bed or long bed. Maybe a slider might be required.

Anderson make a hitch that fits on a rail system.

The other guys are right, you will most likely need a hitch that goes into the rails and I agree with the https://andersenhitches.com/Products...l-version.aspx because of price, weight. B&W would be a close 2nd or maybe even a tossup between the 2. It's your choice whether you want to go with ball mount or rail mount, however if you go rail mount the ball may be taken out vs. ball mount then you must take the rails out.

If I were you, I would remove the rails and install an Andersen Ultimate 2 using the goose neck ball.

Over the years we have had 3 different hitches. The 2 best hitches were the Curt Q20 and the B&W Turnover Ball rated at 20,000. I like the B&W best. (I believe I saw that Curt makes a turnover ball hitch too.) The Curt is easy for one person to remove. The B&W is more difficult as it weighs more.
Look at all your options, and you will make a decision based on your needs.

Good luck.

I am a fan of the B&W... I was in a similar situation.. rails in truck when in the truck when I bought it. . I chose then B&W Patriot. Absolutely love. Very solid hitch. No movement of kingpin.
