New Durango 5th wheel info

Just bought a new Durango 5th wheel. The control pad for the jacks (outside) is not in the storage compartment or covered in any way. Anyone could just come along and press the buttons retracting jacks etc. I find this a safety issue. Has anyone put something over it or enclosed it so it is out of sight?? Thank you

If you're concerned, see if you can remove it and mount it in a compartment nearby (long enough cord). You can cover the holes with something creative, decal or a plate.

If you have access to the rear of the panel wiring, you could add a switch to the power lead and install it in one of the compartments near the panel. Or maybe key switch beside the panel.

Would something like this work? Go on Amazon and search RV access panel and more choices will come up.

On our Road Warrior we also have a small control board outside. We have been full timers since June 2019 and have not had any issues with this. But you can look at moving inside your side compartment, cables should be long enough. I would not place it in the front compartment since you would need to open the door while hooked up to the truck to lower the jacks for unhooking.

Durango

We are on our second Durango fifth wheel. Both have had an exposed panel.
In 2 years no one has ever messed with it, or at least to my knowledge. I don't like the look, but I have seen other brands do the same thing.
Someone would have to know which buttons to push to activate the system.
We were out 16 weeks in 2021, never an issue.
Enjoy your trailer!

I would be more concerned with weather with it outside. Like I said on the KZ forum you could move it inside like Dutch tar Don said, you could cover the hole with an outside work light.

we've had our Durango for 7 yrs and traveled all over, our front jack switch is just under the overhang, never had it messed with, boondocking, crowded campgrounds, etc.

Never heard of this being an issue..... But a kill switch inside the compartment is not hard to do. Or you could just trip the motor fuse. (assuming it is the resettable type) That way no one can cause inadvertent movement of the slides too.
