New from South Dakota

Hello, Full timer looking for opinions pertaining to a fifth wheel axle upgrade. 2016 Cardinal 3825FL with 7k axles which I personally believe should be upgraded to 8k.
The more thought I give to the subject, I'm now considering upgrading to MORryde independent suspension with disc brakes. Any opinions and experiences would greatly be appreciated.

It sounds pretty pricey especially with a new unit. I had looked into it for a used 36TKSB3 Mobile Suites we bought in 2015. The number I got was 7-8k. It is a lot cheaper to get it on a new unit than retrofit.

Yes, if I was going to to replace my suspension and breaks with the MORRyde IS with disc breaks. You can have it done for 6,100. I would like to have had the MORRyde IS/disc breaks installed when we ordered our 2017 Grand Design Solitude. I'm just not willing to replace my suspension on a brand new 5th wheel. I'll give it a couple of years and reevaluate then.

Strongly recommend MOR/ryde IS suspension because it is so much easier on the trailer. And the disk brakes for no maintenance.

"And the disk brakes for no maintenance."

THAT is why people DO have issues with their disk brakes. They should be removed cleaned and properly lubricate the slide bolts and all mating surfaces.

There is another reason, DRV has a recall for the disk brake caliper bolts as several have came loose and caused serious problems. They say to use RED Loctite, MY opinion that is a bad idea. Blue Loctite is the proper thread locker.

My statement of "no maintenance for disk brakes" is relative to the lack of needing to adjust them like drum brakes that need tweaking quite often

You are looking at about $2900 to upsize the axles/brakes/bearings to 8k, so to upgrade to MorRyde w/discs should add about $3000-$3200 more.
If you stay with the 8k axles, were you going to install disc brakes at same time?
