No Axles?

I recently visited a DRV dealer and discovered they have no axles, but have what he called a Dexter POD or something like that. Anyone have any experience with this concept?

Haven't a CLUE what Dealer means by Dexter POD
Sounds like Dealer making something up to 'be more informed'

Did you notice the wheels/tires (doubles & triples) on those rigs....

Standard equipment on DRV:
*Dexter Axles with EZ Flex Suspension
*Heavy Duty 8,000 Lb. Rated Axles
*Kodiak® Automotive Disc Brakes
*Heavy Duty Grease Bolt Shackles with Bronze Bushing
*MORryde® I.S. Suspension and Heavy Duty Pin Box
*Goodyear® 17 1/2" H-Rated Re-Groovable Tires

Sure sounds like AXLES are used

OB, the list of standard equipment lists both Dexter axles and MorRyde IS. I think it would be one or the other. Maybe what the dealer was talking about was the IS which doesn't have axles in the traditional sense. When we were at MorRyde in Elkhart last fall having the IS installed on ours there was a constant parade of new, unpainted DRV's coming in for what we assumed was an alignment of the IS.

My bad. He did say MorRyde, not Dexter....but yes I looked and it didn't have an axle...at least none that I could see.

IS does not use axles. Probably an option either or. Google up Moryde and it explains the IS design and function.

Actually, the IS does have an axle just like any torsion axle has one. Just on the IS it isn't a round tube. From Wikipedia
Quote:
An even broader (somewhat figurative) sense of the word refers to every pair of parallel wheels on opposite sides of a vehicle, regardless of their mechanical connection to each other and to the vehicle frame or body. Thus, transverse pairs of wheels in an independent suspension may be called an axle in some contexts.

The IS has a short stub axle on it - not one that goes across the entire span of the RV. If you look behind the wheels, you'll see it attached at the top of the rubber bushings and the subframe that they weld in.

Axles or not the Morryde IS system is IMHO the best you can get.

So can the MorRyde IS system be "fitted" to any trailer or does the frame have to be made special to accommodate them? If they are better or even "the best", why doesn't every high end RV have them?

It can be fitted to any. From talking to them when I was there, the major limitation, other than cost, is getting it aligned once installed. Drv, for instance, has a full time driver to shuffle the trailers from Drv to morryde, then to paint or back to factory. Riverstone also offers it as an option.

They are standard on DRVs as are disk brakes. Check with MorRyde for your application, But I would guess that they can be installed on any 5th wheel.

So approximately what is the cost and to convert, I assume you have to take your RV to MorRyde where they remove your axles and install the IS?
