Palomino Columbus 320RS

Hi,

We are going to look at a 2014 Palomino Columbus 320RS.

Does anyone here have one? Does anyone have an idea of the build quality, especially the floors?

We will be living full time in it. Our Rockwood has styrofoam floors which are horrible!

Thanks.

In 2014 the build quality was far superior to today's stuff, so there is that. We did look at some back then but they were out of our price range.

The real question is how they were built. If they put light weight flooring in, it won’t work. The styrofoam in our rig has broken down and is soft.

Styrofoam flooring?? Are you sure? So if someone was to walk on that in stiletto heels holes would be poked all over the place?

That makes no sense.

I saw a older Koala travel trailer built with that styrofoam flooring. It will be obvious if the floor is that stuff. It will feel like walking on a sponge.

I looked at the Columbus 5th wheels back in 2012 and 2013. I thought they were built pretty well and were nice. I actually think they will have 5/8's plywood tongue and groove flooring. You will know right away.

Yep, I’m serious. I’ve been told that by several experienced RV techs.

So I'm at the campground and here comes a lady going up the stairs to a RV in Stiletto heels? Nah, never say never though haha.

In case I wasn’t clear. The styrofoam makes up the base of the floor. There is linoleum and carpet on top as the actual floor.

Our have gone very soft from the styrofoam breaking down as we’ve walked on it. No water damage or leaks.

MANY rigs use the styrofoam sandwich floor system: 1/8" luan on the outside with styrofoam (1.5"?) in the middle. You wanted it light, right?

I get that they wanted it light. I’m trying to figure out if the Palomino has similar construction or if it has a better floor.

I had a 2014 Columbus 320RS and sold it 2 years ago. Had no issues with the flooring, just the living and kitchen slides which were repaired within 2 years. Had no more major issues.

As far as the composition of the floors, I cannot tell you there was styrofoam under the wooden floor but I am sure there was batt insulation as seen from underneath on my coach.

We had a 2014 Columbus 320 and wish we had it back. It was a ideal layout large shower and never had any quality problems.

Some folks are fulltimers, and others use their RV for months at a time. As such, it isn't unfathomable that they get dressed up once in a while, a wedding, funeral, date night, whatever. A spongy weak floor is not something I'd want in an RV.

I understood you. I have just never seen, or maybe don't remember seeing this in any trailer or 5th wheel. I would have to guess something else other than linoleum and carpet covers the foam.

1/8" lauan? If so, that's pretty damn easy to break and crack apart, especially laid on top of spongy foam. I can't see myself owning a "lite" anything. They don't seem to hold up well.
