Angry Pilot won't light

Just replaced the anode rod on my Suburban water heater. The water heater was working, but the water was not getting as hot as it used to.

I got it all put back together, bled the water line, but now the pilot won't light. It clicks to ignite, but doesn't...

Gas? Did you turn the gas supply off? If the gas has been off for a while it may have air in the lines that takes time to purge.

Light your kitchen stove first to bleed the air out, then try the water heater.....

This^^ is your first step. You might also open a burner on your stove to purge any air.

Since you hear clicking, I don’t believe you have a pilot, but rather an electronic igniter. Still, air in the line or no gas flow will result in your symptoms.

Finally, you mentioned the heater not heating the water as hot as it had, so you replaced the anode. I don’t think there is a connection between the two. Your lack of hot water temp is more likely a thermostat problem, something easily replaced.

Possibly air in your HWH. Run a faucet in the hot water position to insure all air is out.
