Said when you take the hitch out of the truck, the bed doesn't have the mounting bars / brackets inside the bed. So I'm thinking this good.
Is this the new "standard" prep package and will all new hitches work with the Puck System? If it's not a Puck, what is it called?

I have had my Reece hitch and puck system for 10 years and love it. You can buy an adapter kit if you switch brand of trucks without buying the new hitch head.

How beefy is the puck system. Not being critical but not seen one.? I was never impressed with the rail system.

I don't really understand that comment. Every single 5th wheel trailer ever made before ~2010 that was towed by a pickup used the rail system. If there were endemic problems, don't you think we would know?
Either way, I think the pucks are rated ~26k on the Ford - so again, probably not going to be an issue... Its pretty beefy under the bed.

Ford started the puck system with Reese in the 2011 model year. That is the same year they made their own 6.7 diesel engine. I saw the puck system on less than 50% of the trucks I looked at but bought a 2011 F-150 instead with their new 5.0 litre engine.
In 2012 I looked at trucks again as I when from a small TT to a semi large 5th wheel. At that time the Ford dealers that I stopped at I would say over 50% of the trucks were ordered with the puck system.
Not sure when Ram offered the puck system. Maybe 2015 or so. I was not even aware Chevy offered a puck system. Learn something everyday...thanks.

Well, not actually EVERY pickup before 2010 used the rail system...there has been the B&W Companion hitch for a loonnngg time. Been towing since 2007 and no rails...

I had to order the puck system hitch mounting adapter for my Hensley Trailer Saver hitch at a cost of $600. The factory puck option is about $300 and my hitch was $2k. So overall not a cheap option by any means but neither is RVing.
However, the combination of all the benefits at this point sure do seem appealing.

I hope you mean the adapter for your hitch to mount directly to the pucks. I had a Reese 16K rail mount when I got my new truck with pucks. I bought a Reese puck-to-rail adapter so I didn't have to buy a new hitch. When I got tired of all the chucking and clunking, replace my pin box with a MorRyde which helped. When I got tired of wrestling with 100 lbs of hitch, I got an Andersen rail mount hitch which turned out to be 2" taller than the Reese and I couldn't level the fiver because the Reese adapter was 2.5" high. Finally got a goose ball and AUH ball mount and love it. This was over 3 seasons, but still expensive. However, had I not gone that route with the new truck and got a puck hitch, it would have been both expensive and heavy, so it worked out.

For anyone towing, the puck or factory 5th wheel/goose neck hitch prep system is definitely an option you want. I love mine. In a matter of minutes I can install or remove my Andersen hitch, which attaches to the goose neck ball, and have a clear bed floor when needed.

So do you mean that you have to purchase a hitch specific for the truck brand? Seems like a hitch would adapt to any puck system?

Nope. The puck spacing is manufacturer specific. Most hitches have different base plates for different manufacturers.
Shame they didn't come up with a SAE standard on it....

So the "base plate" has to be purchased specifically for the truck make/model?

I installed the Trailersaver puck adapter for my BD3 into my 2018 Sierra last week. What a ROYAL PIA!!!
If it had only dropped down into the pucks like displayed on their video. I fiddled with it for nearly 2 hours. One side would go down and then the other side would not as if it was not lining up.
I finally got it in and then one side was higher. Then when I hitched the fiver it dropped won like the other side. A bit unnerving.
I called the emergency number for Hensley (it was a Sunday) and no one called back.
It was a big $600 disappointment.
If I had to do it over again, I would have purchased another brand of puck adapter as they are less money and MAYBE would have installed easier.
It is nice to have a clean, flat truck bed when removed. I'm just not at all impressed the Trailersaver model.

The factory 5th wheel prep for Dodge uses the puck system too. I opted for the goose neck prep for 4 less holes in the bed and those annoying covers that never stay in place or get lost. I will uses the companion goose neck mount or the ultimate goose neck. Or maybe I will use a goose neck pin box on the trailer.
