Pullrite Capture Plate Bent

Today, I just happened to be under the pin box on our 5th wheel and I noticed the Pullrite capture plate was bent, cracking and overall, just seemed pretty beat up. The photos show the plate in place and its condition. I'm not even sure how this happens. The hitch plate on the slide doesn't look any worse for the wear. Any ideas and has anyone experienced this? It appears to me that it should be replaced. Click image for larger version

A wider shot of the whole pin box area might help explain what has happened but that doesn't look great. I think I might want to replace the whole thing and take a closer look at the hitch as well.

Wow! It looks like the plate tried to rotate but maybe the fifth wheel didn't. Or the plate wasn't all the way down on the fifth wheel plate when making a turn.

Whatever it was - that thing looks like it in desperate need of replacement if for no other reason than to be safe.

Someone try to hitch up with standard hitch... Non slider and turned left and right?
Maybe a dealer yard guy not knowing about slider capture plate

I'm with Traveldawg above. It looks like the hitch was jammed and didn't want to pivot.

Thank you ALL [emoji106]for your insights. For keymastr and all who want to see a more overall view, I've attached some photos. You can see very little wear on the hitch plate leading me to think the trailer could have been moved without the proper hitch as a couple have suggested. Click image for larger version

If you had it serviced recently this would be my bet.
If not serviced recently, I would be checking the operation of the slide mechanism to make sure it is operating smoothly without binding.

If you store the rig in a storage yard, it's possible someone tried to borrow you rv.... but couldn't turn.

By the looks of your 5th wheel it sure wasn't you. I am thinking that was somebody else & you have just now noticed it.
