Question about filling fresh water tank

We’ve got a 2019 Heartland Fuel 352 5th wheel same as floor plan as Torque 345 JM. We have it parked onsite at our lake property. We don’t have city water hookups but do have an external 275 gal tank. Is there any way to use the Heartland onboard water pump to transfer over the water from the 275 gal tank? Or do I have to buy a stand alone pump to transfer the water over and fill up the 5th’s fresh water tank?

Thank,
John

Are you going to move it? If not - it may be worth just unhooking the input of the water pump and plumbing to it.

Lots of questions on pump head/ height/ suction power to be answered there. You may just have to try it to see if it works at all. It may not have the power.

To be honest the average RV water pump isn't much to write home about - it's acceptable but that's it. If I was going some serious plumbing - I would equip that tank with a household well pump with significantly more power and just feed the RV "City water supply" with it. The house style pump will be bigger, more expensive, flow better, with higher pressure, consistently, then the little dinky RV pump ever will.

Thanks!! I never thought about a well pump. I’ll have to see about getting one as if and when we do put in an in ground fresh water tank, then we’d have to have one then anyway.

A small sump pump. They are available at most hardware stores, Northern tool, Harbor Freight supply and probably Wal-Mart or Amazon.
Prices start around $40.

Something like this might work for you. It would depend on the size of the fill opening on the top of your tank. No priming necessary, Drop it in and turn it on.
You might have to reduce the size of the hose or install a valve to slow the water flow down or the discharge of a pump like this (or any other) may be faster than the RV tank can handle causing an overflow condition.
