re: Towing older 5er, what to do for towing prep?

Hi All,

Reading the discussion on tires has me wondering. We have a 1997 5er that has about 200 miles on it, and I think from what I understand, I'm being somewhat generous on the milage.

My questions are these, what do I need to do to get it ready for a 180 mile road trip? This would be a one way trip.

I have the spare tire in the basement, should I trust that one? Can I replace the others with cheap ones, just enough to get the 5er to the next place? What about the bearings? Axels? Anything else that I would need to look at?

Tires , bearings and BRAKES.

A friend who picked up a 12 year old 5er, that hadn't moved in 6 years, and had 2 flats in the first 3 miles, and he only had to go 9 miles on a 50 MPH limit road.
For 180, or 1,800, you have to make sure everything related to safe travel, is in good operating order.

get new tires!!!!!!!! inspect and repack wheel bearings!!!!!!!!!

If it isn't going to move afterwards, have it flat bedded there...it may be cheaper that new tires, bearings and brake job...and the cost to haul...
