Talking Rear Camera

We bought this Grand Design 5th wheel used. 2021 model year. Rear camera mounted near the roof looks like a Furrion brand. No display came with the RV.. No Furrion camera system paperwork in the bundle we received with the RV.

With the prices I see on Furrion monitors , I'd like to test and see if the camera even functions first. I have never owned a Furrion camera system. It seems no other monitors function with the camera?

suggest you contact Furrion support@furrion.com
as they indeed have cameras with different formats and you need a monitor that will work with that cameras output format

You will need a compatible Furrion screen that can be "paired" with what looks like your 2.4Ghz camera. I have a similar camera from Furrion. I am also running a product that links to my GMC display. The Furrion doesn't drop out, even though it is at the back of our 39 ft trailer. The GMC camera drops every now and then (haven't bothered to run that down, could be interference between 2- 2.4 Ghz transmitters)...Furrion offered 2 sizes of screens, I went with a 7 inch. I also opted for the side marker cameras, that also synch to the same 7inch screen. Real handy when backing.

Verify the model number.......probably a Furrion FOS7TASF Wireless Vehicle Observation System with side and rear cameras and 7-inch monitor in the tow vehicle cab, which is what I have on my fifth wheel trailer. The monitor needs a power source and the tow vehicle's light on to operate. Then download the manual in the link below and if not too late, ask the seller functionality test the camera with you.

I have read good things about Haloview from Tadi Brothers.
I replaced my OEM Furion system with VisionWorks system bought from TechnoRV. I bought it during Black Friday sales for less than $350. Furrion upgrades/replacements were upwards of $600. VisionWorks uses a good Sony camera. I bought a 5” screen because it fits my dash layout. The Furrion system was NOT HD…it was blurry. The VisionWorks screen is incredible HD.

Distance on my rig is at least 50’ from rear camera to dash monitor. On the first trip it would momentarily loose signal or screen freeze. I called VisionWorks and they sent me a new antenna and 24’ “extension cord” which I mounted on the roof to cut broadcast distance to ~25’. I have not tried it out yet. I think Haloview provides some sort of signal booster for long rigs.

I installed a Ebay $160, 4 camera system on our GD 230RL to our 1500 Ram hemi. Used only 3. 1 spare.
1 in rear on the Fiver and one on each side front to eliminate blind spots.
8" clear monitor. Easy lane changes now.

After some research of the Furrion systems. I will be looking at other brands for rear views as we run down the roads. Furrion is proud of their product. Folks here and other places have commented about quality of the image that could be better.

I talked to a friend that has the Furrion system he bought for his 5th wheel. He tells me they are top of line brand. Yet he does not use his camera system because of poor image quality. I did not even know he had bought the system 2 yrs ago.

For backing into a spot, we use walkie talkies. My wife works well with me. The key word for her is: STOP when things look close or bad. Thanks

We got a Haloview set, rear and both sides. Easy install and works great!

I've wanted to use a dedicated dash cam as a "backup camera", with constant on power and, if I can get it, 4K imaging. Also, recording function and parking mode.
