Replace Spare Tire With New?

Replacing my nearly 4 year old Westlake 235/85R16 tires with the Sailun S637's. Spare tire is also the Westlake tire and has never been off the rim. Should I also replace the spare Westlake tire? Do live in Las Vegas but go north in the heat of the summer. Spare is mounted under the frame away from the UV but not the heat. I figure if I should have a tire failure the Westlake should be able to get me to the nearest town to have it replaced.

You've said " off the rim " did you mean to say " on the road " ?

JMHO: I would ( and have ) trusted a 5 year old ;" never on the road tire "; as a spare . BUT if you do still own the trailer when it's due for a second set of on the road tires , I'd be replacing the spare then.

I'm not too bright but I think you answered your own question.

I would probably just spend the extra $100.00 and get a new spare.

Never used/never on the road. Why did I use "never off the rim"? Not a clue. Mind not working well this day.

My spare westlake is sitting on the ground and not mounted on a rim...... Never touched pavement with a load on it. I have load range H 17.5 tires and a load range G 16" sailun spare. I never trusted those tires! To many reports of blow outs and thousands of dollars damage or possible accident caused by the blow out.

It depends on your idea of using a spare tire. If you want to change a tire and continue on with your trip until it is convenient to replace the spare tire, then it makes sense to carry a new tire. If your purpose of a spare tire is to just get you to the next tire shop where a new tire gets replaced and the old spare goes back into the spare tire rack, then it makes sense to carry a old spare for such limited usage.
Personally, I carry old spare tires and just update them with the best of the old take offs when I buy new tires. The couple of times I have needed to use the old spare tire, I just go slow and usually can find a tire shop within 20-100 miles.
I did have a 2 year old Westlake 235/85R16 tire blowout 3 years ago and replaced them with the Sailun S637. I really like the Sailun tires that now have 40k miles on them.

PS - I have a off brand tire as a spare.
Question - How did you get 4 year old tires on a (2019 Heartland Big Country 3155), 2 year old RV?

This is something that I have given some consideration to. The truck spare has been under there for 14 years. It gets checked for pressure maybe once a year but that is it.

Likewise the trailer spare has not seen road for at least 4 years.

I am thinking the next time the truck is due for new shoes, next spring, I will keep the best looking one for a spare & toss the original 14 year old, never used, one.

Maybe rotate the worst looking trailer tire to be used as the spare & put the good spare on the road.

?? Are you not going to replace all the tires as a set? Then save the best old tire as the spare.

After a acquaintance's "China bomb" spare exploded on the bumper mounted tire rack and took out his $$$$ large rear window, I immediately replaced my "China bomb" Towmax spare with an identical road tire. His was about 5 years old, mine, ~3 years old. Was it an unusual occurrence for him? For sure, but why take a chanced for not much more then $150 for a Sailun or similar vs the inconvenience of waiting for a new window, worse in not covered by insurance.

Question - How did you get 4 year old tires on a (2019 Heartland Big Country 3155), 2 year old RV?

The build date on the tire is 5/17, 5th wheel was built in mid 2018 but was titled and sold as a 2019. We bought it used last January. Plan on buying new tires late this winter or early spring so will be getting close to 4 years. Don't think there was that many miles put on by previous owners, but we put 12k on them this last summer and fall.

I had a sidewall split on a 2 year old Constancy tire last summer. I opted to replace the spare, and bought 5 Goodyear Endurance tires. It was a peace of mind thing.

Change it with the others and you will never need it.

The trailer spare is only a couple years old. Good to use. The truck spare is well past age at 14 years even though it has never seen the sun.

As it happens both truck & trailer are using the same size tire & LT.

That is a good set up. In your case you could just carry 1 spare on the truck which would also cover the trailer spare needs.
