RV GPS

Well, it’s getting close. New Solitude in the next week or so. New to towing.

I will definitely need an RV gps with lifetime maps and traffic.
Price point, under $500.00.

Anyone have one that was under $500.00? Pros &Cons?

If you're not comfortable using your smartphone, I've always been pleased with the Garmin GPS units. My last one was the larger 7-in garm in GPS for RV. At the time I believe it was their model RV 760. It may have changed now.

There are some who prefer tablet apps (tablet must have GPS built-in), others who prefer phone apps and others who prefer stand-alone GPSs.

Personally, at least for now, I prefer the stand-alone approach. I don't think you can go wrong with Garmin, I have the Garmin RV 780. I've had various Garmins over the years in my cars and have never had any problems other than the rare map error, which is going to be the case with any GPS or GPS app.

Garmin also well respected in the aviation and marine GPS industry.

Look into the Route-1 low clearance POI database. Most GPS apps or standalone units for RVs and truckers only have about 1500 data points; Route-1 has about 8,000 for all of the U.S. and Canada. $75, when it's on sale, with lifetime updates. Loads as a standard POI database and is compatible with all major mapping apps and gps units. No, I don't work for them.

Most everyone had a tablet laying around. I took ours and downloaded CoPolit for heavy duty trucks. The trucking routes are dead on. Get off the beaten path and good as most. This is very inexpensive. Naturally as it is a trucker gps has height, weight, axle weights, lengths, etc. Does not have rv parks in it but i have apps for that on my phone. Just enter address and go. Works for us.

I HATEHATEHATE my Rand McNally RVND7. Goes to night mode in the middle of the day, and then day mode in the middle of the night, speed readout doesn't work most times, it gets hot and shuts off when mounted in the window on it's suction window mount. I called RM and got the run-around. It's a matter of time until I throw this piece of junk out the window, I hope you're not behind me.

Had 2 Rand McNally's. Hated both. Same problems you had and quit working after a couple years. That tablet hanging right in there. No problems either

Purchased a Garmin RV 770 last year. Found the best price at the time was on GPS Store. You will need to purchase a traffic cable separately if you don’t want to link it with your phone. It just comes with a standard power cable and dash mount. It’s our first RV GPS and we like it so far. A little different than our old Garmin as far as menus and functions go. We used a Garmin 2595 LMT for over 10 years with no issues. Still works well. I have tried other brands prior and prefer Garmin.
