Safety brake cable vandal

Stayed at the Oasis for a week this March. Hooked up and was ready to leave for Lake Havasu Az. Went to hook up the safety cable but to my chagrin it was gone, vanished, and not there. Earlier my wife and I had watched it swing in the wind as it was a windy time in Las Vegas.

I guess someone had their idea of fun and removed it while we were in town. It took a couple of hours to get road ready and replace the box and cable. Now I tape the cable up out of sight. The folks at the Oasis were no help at all. So much for security there. But Havasu was great!

Hopefully no damage to the wiring or magnets , by the constant battery voltage applied to the system.

Luckily no damage. The tech who swapped checked it for me. I told him next time I would pull it out myself and put it in the trailer. He shook his head and explained why that was a bad idea. It was as you mention not good to have constant battery voltage applied to the system.

You could leave the plunger in and attach the cable when you travel. The plunger can't fail so they probably needed the cable.
We just had the plunger snatched out on a sharp turn when the cable got caught under the hitch leg. My wife thought we hit something. I've since shortened the cable to avoid another incident.

I have one of these with a snap clip on the plunger end. There are a couple lengths - mine is the ~4' with, IIRC, a 6' available as well:https://www.amazon.com/Fastway-80-01...7795944&sr=8-9

That would be an almost disaster if you had a hydraulic disc brake system like mine as the pump would continue to run till you noticed it hopefully before something burns out or starts leaking.

Why change what you're doing because of this one incident? Is this knucklehead following you around? You gonna remove your TPMS sensors every day too? Shrug it off and keep living.

You can buy a spare break away cable and plug. Easy to store away.

Exactly, it could have been a kid, out collecting them, for absolutely no reason.

Exactly what I'm going to do. Do not want to be in that spot again.

I bought this as well, but definitely need the 6' length, I would guess most do.

I have the original cable as a spare.

I have a 3/8" eye bolt (that's metal diameter, not the hole) on the hitch and the shortie works for me - and has for 25K miles. All 5ers and hitch combos aren't the same
