Slide Out Problem

Forest River 29 re 2014 ...I never use outside slide out switch because I like to be inside to watch for problems...well not this time ..living room slide caught kitchen cabinet door and caused the slide to be uneven? at an angle.. slide is on a rack and pinion...It goes back in Thank God but now will only go out at an angle with grinding popping sound like gears missing teeth but all gears and teeth look ok.. also looks like the entire slide has slid about 1 inch toward the back.. any thought on what has happen..promise not to use outside swich again

Does it have only one drive motor, if not maybe the timing got off. If it only has one which is probably the case see if you can see if the gear can be loosened and get it squared up and then retighten. That’s what I would look at while troubleshooting. Something slipped on the timing.

I have 2 big slides with each having a pair of rack and pinion gears. I have to agree with tmw188 as it is possible that the timing slipped on the rack and pinion gears. Make sure to check the seal gap on both ends of the slide when it is closed and also when it is open. If you find a difference in the seal gap, an adjustment is easy to make on the NON-POWERED END by removing the bolts that hold the pinion gear bushing plates in place and let the gear disengage from the rack. Now the slide can either be pushed into place by hand or use a pry bar in the appropriate place to move the slide. I have used both methods, but a small pry bar can be used on the rack to move one end out with very little effort. Using a tape measure to compare ends and counting exposed rack teeth may be helpful also. It's not a really tough DIY job if you have the right tools and skill set. Good luck with your issues.

Rack n Pinion

Sounds like your rack and pinion jumped out of sync with one another, the one that is not traveling our as far most likely is a tooth off due to the impact of the cabinet , you'll need to drop it out of the fit and manually force the slide out to be even with the other one, mark the teeth before you drop it from the rack so you can tell how many teeth it's off. then re fit it up and try it again.
This is basically re- timing the gears to be in sync,
hope this helps , good luck

Don't forget you have to open up the area under the slide motor (coroplast) to accomplish this task. Please make sure the power is disconnected before you begin (both 12 and 120 volt). Gears and hands don't play well together.

I cut a 3 sided hinge door with the hinge facing forward, and reseal it with Gorilla tape.
