Slide Won't Come In

our '05 Montana 5th wheel slide not come in
We are plugged into the barn.
the bedroom and kitchen go out and come in like normal
BUT the dining room and sofa will not.
It makes the normal budge at the bottom but it just budges an inch then stops.
Anyone have this happen before?
thanx
Trapper John

Is it hydraulic or electric? If hydraulic run the short slide in about a foot, then run all in. Don't ask why but it worked for me.

Check your battery(s) - I had the same thing happen while plugged in to power, found that my batteries did not have enough to close the heavier slide after closing the small one - had to hook up to the tow vehicle to get slide in - batteries had gone dry & would not hold a charge - had to replace them.

This is a nightmare of mine. I am always worried I am going to be at a campsite & not going to be able to pack up & leave cause a slide won't come in. I am going to have to learn how to manually bring them in at some point.

I have a 2005 Montana Mountaineer with 3 slides. I only have one switch that controls all three, one after the other. The smallest slide is the bed, it's first out. Then the middle one with the entertainment center, fireplace and desk and lastly, the dinette and couch. When it's cold out, they come in out of normal order sometimes. I am sure it has something to do with the hydraulics being cold.

The battery being weak could be the problem, even plugged in. I was getting ready to leave an RV park once. I stayed plugged into the 50amp service. My hydraulic leveling jacks were acting odd and not coming the whole way up. I ran to the local Auto Zone and got a new battery. That solved my issue.

Had the exact same problem with my 2008 Montana. Run the bedroom slide out about a foot. Then run it in and continue holding the button. The big slide should come in. If not try again. Usually works after two or three times.

I think that most makers of slides have on their website info on how to troubleshoot a slide that's not working. I have Schwintek on my GD, so I checked their website and found a nice TROUBLESHOOTING guide.

Mine did the same, different brand though. It has 2 shear bolts, one on each side. It would lift the one side and move a couple inches then stop. We finally used a high lift jack to get the one side to move up an inch or so. Then while switch was held in the retract position, a couple of us would shove in on the dead side. Took a couple minutes but we got it all the way in. Any access panels on the bottom to get to the slide gearing to replace shear bolt?

I had to cut access in the coroplast cover to gain access to the manual slide retraction nut. Easy, cut a 3 sided hinge with the loose end facing backwards.

Make sure the middle slide is in. I think it may have to do with the speed of the fluid/motor and transfer to the big slide. Once the big slide is over the hump, it goes easy. When you get home change the fluid

I have never had a Montana but every 5W I have ever owned had a way to manually retract the slides. One you needed a ratchet and current has an old fashioned crank in the basement.
