Sold Class A switching to 5th wheel

Hello
I was looking for a used 5th wheel Toy Hauler and ran across some
New Palomino Puma for about the same price new as many other brands used ones.
Is there any known issues with these that anyone can share?

At 14K (13,900) GVWR it may or may not be good fit for a F250 depending on what year/trim that F250 is.

As for Palomino brand....

The Palamino is a basic entry level trailer. Look at what kind of construction you are getting for the money.

Are the cabinets real wood or vinyl over particle board?
Are the cabinets screwed and glued or simply stapled together?
What are the weight ratings on the axles?
What tires are on the trailer and weight rating?
Is the trailer wood framed or aluminum?
What is the GVWR for the trailer?
What is the size of the steel frame under the trailer?

Quality cost money and is heavier.

All Ford F250 diesels don't have the same load carrying ability or tow ratings. Impossible to say what your F250 diesel can handle
WE need your trucks year model..
2wd or 4wd...
trucks fawr and rawr.... from the drivers side door placard

Much depends on year model as the newer gen F250 diesels have a bigger tow and load carrying ratings over older F250 diesels.

Other wise were just guesstimating and some will recommend a class 8 road tractor.

It looks like the truck might be right on the edge of being too light.
Can I increase some of the GVWR with some airbags or helper springs or if its not on the label it should be avoided.
Trailer is 10,500 unloaded and 13,900 gvwr
With. 1900 pin weight

You cannot legally increase your GVWR. You can put bandaids on an overloaded truck and make it a little more compliant, but at the end of the day you are over.

YES you can tow that 14K 5th wheel
1900 pin weight is DRY pin based on DRY weight 10,500 (18% Ratio)
20% ratio.....14k = 2800 WET Pin
Well within your trucks RAWR



NO.....air bags etc do not increase towing capability



I tow 14K with a 2007 3500 SRW---6200# RAWR & 3080# Wet pin

The fifth wheel you're considering has to have some lightweight construction in the build. I read it's a 38 foot? Right?

Our ORV 26RLS is right around 13000. Towing it with a F350 diesel long bed.

I would not consider any smaller truck. Really not a lot of differance in the two trucks other than axel weight carrying.

Don't have any knowledge of that brand.

That sticker on your truck really doesn't mean anything...right? When I bought my truck the factory would give you the option of a 10,000 sticker for tax purposes only. The truck was rated much higher...

Funny you said that, I registered my tag on Friday and the lady asked what gvwr number I wanted on the registration/title. She said I can put any I wanted.
I went with the original number

Yes...always go by the truck spec sheet from the manufacturer to get the true safe weight/towing info.

You can register lower in some states. NEVER higher than GVWR off the Certificate of Origin or Title.

I have registered MIL trailers at 2999# in PA which kept me out of the brakes/annual safety inspection arena. No, I don't load it over that. I would NEVER.

AS biscuit say Ford gives the truck a 6340 rawr so use it. The trucks front axle changes little if any with the trailer hooked up.

Some states (not all) may have a gvwr/gvw/tonnage/gcw/unladin/etc weights for registration purposes. Your state uses a gvwr number so make sure you have enough registered.

Now this is where some rv folks get confused.
If you would have registered at 13000 gvwr your state weighed you over that amount they could give give you a fix it warning to have more registered gvwr.
Most folks use the sum of the trucks gawrs as their registered gvwr. Some may choose to have more gvwr added however DOT (anywhere) may ticket you for exceeding the trucks steer/drive and trailer axle/tire ratings.

I may not have explained the difference right but regarding registered gvw/gvwr and axle/tire load ratings , your local state troop captain can explain what your legal over vehicle weight obligations will be.

You might need more than 65psi in the rear tires with that pin weight.
