Question for folks using the high flow nozzles...are there ones strictly for semis and maybe the stations I tried were purely for 18 wheelers?

I measures my inlet on the truck and looks to be an inch and a half in diameter for the opening.

Hate to hi-jack the post, sorry but inquiring minds wanna know.

Automatic Fuel Nozzles | High Flow Rate Fuel Nozzles | Best Fuel Nozzle

Looks like 1 1/8" is the max. nozzle OD with pump pressure and inlet ID and hose ID allowing higher flow volume increases.

Could be just the noted TV's filler configuration (bends) won't allow the higher flow volumes causing the nozzle to nuisance click off?

Peace.

My old VW Jetta TDi diesel accepted the large truck fuel nozzle. Had to fuel at truck stops in a pinch every once in a while (would usually get some strange looks). I think it took all of about 60 seconds to fill the tank!

As many others have said, the height of some of these 5ers (mine is just over 13') is what takes getting used to. Suddenly, you become VERY aware of overpasses, wires above roads, and canopies. The added length isn't much of an issue.

"Don't ever get the two (fuel and DEF) mixed up. Thats why GM put the DEF tank under the hood."

DEF tank has a much smaller hole on Dodge/Ford.
You can't get a diesel or gas nozzle in there.

The OP asked about getting gas so they should not need DEF.

Since he also mentioned a dually--and gas duallys are pretty much a rarity--I will bet he is using the word 'gas' for 'fuel' or 'diesel'---myself, I never say 'going to diesel up'
Just my take on the OP post...

Hey Guys, I guess terminology "OP" is "original poster"? Anhyow, correct it is a 2016 GMC diesel and I may have said gas as this is my first diesel and still have to say the right lingo.

Yes, I read up on the DEP . It does have an expiration date. Can't use old DEF. Its weird though. The capacity of the DEF tank is 5.3 gallons. It doesn't tell me how quick the stuff gets consumed, but 5.3 gallons?? That is alot. I guess I have to drive it more often so the DEF doesn't get stale.

Is this DEF like the stuff I can get at Auto Zone and the like? With the special certification? Does each manfucaturer GMC, FDord and Dodge use the same stuff? Mighty obliged.

I buy my DEF at Walmart, it's cheap there. I don't worry about how fast it's used up I just keep a spare jug on hand. Silverado will tell me when it's time to put more in, then I can go 1,000 miles. It's about like the fuel tank, I don't worry about the MPG I just keep the tank full

Yeah don't fret over the DEF. It's basically urea and mainly DE-ionized water. It's not so much it goes stale, it like some other liquids is photo-reactive. Doesn't like direct sun light UV. So as long as it's stored in the shade and away for direct heat it'll be OK till you use it up.
Any of the brands you see sold with different names all meet the same DOT specs.. Kind of like motor oils and their SAE certs.
A two Gal. jug/box with a spout should be about $10-14. Got a box of Blue DEF the other day at Wallyworld for $11.
Bulk pumping is still cheaper.
Return a jug if the seal has been broken. There have been reports of low life's returning a jug with just water in it... could be urban folklore though.

Be well.

I pay 2.79 per gal. for def at my local truck stop which saves me about 4.00 per 2 and 1/2 gal. jug if purchasing at wal-mart. When traveling i buy several jugs and take them with me but always use the truck stop locally when not traveling. Def is the only thing that truckstops have that is reasonable. I stay away from truck stops when fueling as i also have aux. tank.

1. It allows you to choose which station you want to you, not one you have to use. If the town or area you planned on fueling up in is not accessible, has a pump problem, crazy fuel prices, ect you can just move on to the next one.

2. Is a peace of mind if you have an emergency of some kind.

3. I know this is all in my head, but filling up 1/2 a tank always feels more wallet friendly then a full tank.
Filling up at half tank ensures you won't arrive at the campsite on fumes, and have to have someone take you and a fuel can to the closes gas/diesel station before you can leave the site.

Ask me how I know....

I have a 2016 Chevy diesel and have found 1 instance where a high flow nozzle wouldn't fit correctly into my fill port. After looking at the nozzle I realized it had an added ring around it preventing full engagement. When I enquired about it, I was told they use these nozzles to discourage pickup truck use of their large truck island. I was able to make it work, but I had to hold the nozzle in place. Needless to say, I'm not ever going back!
