Still Searching

We are still trying this out. We have rented a few over the year and the one thing that is not fitting for us is the Kitchen.

What we want is to find a 5th that has a larger then usual counter with the sink & stove open.
The second thing that is important is clothing storage.

With those two items that means less living or Bed space. For living space we would use two recliners and be happy. For Bed space we use a Queen size bed and use storage under it.

So is there a 5th wheel that anyone can suggest.

Ones that we have liked are front Bath and rear kitchens. However there have been none with both in it.

TexandLinda,
Are you looking for new or used, and max length?

I would had, what size pickup you have and the price you are willing pay,? For sure you can find the 5th wheel that will meet all your requirements, it's all a question of lenght, weight and money

Don't know if you want a full time or part time rig. Two excellent rigs are Excel 38 RDE and NuWa 38 CKRD. Both are excellent full time 5rs.

" sink & stove open."
Not sure what you mean by this...

Shouldn't be too hard to find something close to your needs. As far as clothing storage, if you aren't going to fulltime, you could always use the W/D closet for extra space.

We have the HitchHiker Discover America 355CK. It is a traditional set up with a center kitchen and has loads of counter space. We have a walk thru bath which really opens up the bedroom with a Queen bed. Has a separate closet for stackable washer and dryer plus a small linen closet. We are full timers and have plenty of storage. Unfortunately, NuWa is not manufacturing right now but you may be able to find a used one.

Keep looking
You will know when the right one comes along.
Our unit, the wife choose the interior and i chose the exterior. I fully support her decision and for anything missing we modified. Still adding stuff after 5 years.

Good question, the issue is that some have said "go used but not older then 5 years." Not knowing the pros and cons it becomes scary.

Pickup will be a 2014 F450 Dually Diesel, and your right it comes down to MONEY!
with:

Photo Gallery - Utility Bodywerks - Manufacturer of RV Hauler Beds

Money for these two items is covered, still working on the money for the trailer.

Full Time is the intention, we have looked at Excel (not that model yet), and never thought about NuWa. Thanks we will look them up.

Sink and Stove have a counter top piece that covers them usually to make the counters look bigger, however when you start cooking is there any counter space with out these pieces in place?
Washer Dryer, is another interesting fact that someone brought to mind, do we need it? Some campers have mentioned they got rid of theirs and using campground facilities. What is anyone elses opinions?

Ok so my question is not what you got but what did you want on the extiorier and what did she want on the interior?

Now some else brought an interesting fact, Class A or oversized Class C. Is there anyone that has had both and what is the deciding factor?

We don't have a FW but we do have a rear kitchen. The RK is wonderful and has above average counter space. You can leave a couple of appliances out and still have plenty of working space. Kitchen counters, even in bigger units can be pathetically small. (Obviously designed by a male, lol.) To get the max. RK counter space, you want the fridge in a slide but some don't like that due to weight on the slide and wear and tear of the LP line and wiring underneath.

The downside to a RK is that you can't have a large rear window. We had one in our old TT and miss it a lot. Not only gives you a great view when set up, it really brightens up the interior. RVs tend to be on the darker side due to the small windows they typically have and may be something to think about if full-timing.

Maybe a kitchen with island is the way to go?

Now that we have it, a decent-sized wardrobe is a big plus IMO. Can never have too much inside storage. On storage, one thing that bugs me is that often they cheap out and install plywood blanking panels in cabinetry instead of putting a door on. Makes it hard sometimes to see and remove what's in behind it. Some manufacturers have doors on everything. Sometimes cabinetry can be so high above the floor you need a stepladder. A good thing to do when you are looking closely at a particular unit is to sit inside for as long as it takes and think about functionality of everything. Little things you didn't notice at first can become pretty annoying afterwards. Like TV location for example.

RV Shows are going on now thru mid Feb. Go to as many shows as you can. There are also custom builders from Forks RV, SpaceCraft and New Horizons that will custom build what you want.

You will be limited to about 38' with a 2014 F-450 as these rigs are heavy.

Other than that there are non-custom builders from Peterson Ind. Excel, and DRV that offer a bunch of floor plans. A F-450 can tow most of these units. Not sure about the largest 43' DRV units.

Very good units are also Heartland LandMark and Holiday Rambler Presidentials. Checkout their floor plans.

Good luck

If you are going to fulltime, then I would deem a washer/dryer a necessity. I find it expensive and not enjoyable to do laundry in some of the places made available in CGs--others are quite nice, but still costly to use.

Agree with wingnut60 - an onboard Washer/Dryer is very useful. If you use an RV Park pool you will have a wet towel. The Drier comes in very handy.

Also - you will not need to always be looking for quarters.

What we can't stretch a clothes line from truck and 5er, then drive to next location? The clothes would be dry... ...lol
