Very simple 13'6" is Max legal height for ANY vehicle. Use that as a guild and build what you want.

I have enjoyed reading the various comments and stories about RV garages on this post and others offering suggestions on sizes and seeing actual photos.
I am considering building as well and think it would be helpful if those posting could include some costs.

Depends on cdn$ or us$
With or without concrete floor.
Insulated shed or not
Wired for power and how heavy. 15 amp circuit for lights or 15 plus 30 amp. That said...
CDN$ 28x40 feet not insulated but with 14x14 foot insulated overhead door, man door, 8x7 foot insulated overhead door, 5 inch thick, 28x40 concrete floor, recycled compacted concrete footing under floor and 100 x 30 foot recycled concrete driveway, wired for 60 amps, 15 amp Lighting circuit , 15 amp outlet circuit, 1 x 30 amp 110 v circuit for trailer.
Driveway prep by me and footing compaction. 6x6 poles, step trusses for overhead door, Led bulbs in shed for lights.
..............................
Best price I could have it built for
all in labour materials, taxes
Mid $30k
...............................
Time spent in shed adding features to trailer out of miserable winter weather... Storage for compact tractor and accessories, yard tools out of garage, Doing small jobs for the better half....
Already installed wet bolts on trailer suspension myself with a little help from brother in law.
PRICELESS!!!!!!!!

Storage carport
Mine is 40 long x 20 wide. This allows me to open the slides under the roof. I added, which you can't see, green roofing panels to about 50% of the open sides. Anymore than that and I was afraid of the sail effect it might create. Costs came in around $9K for everything. Works good for me. I did the shed roof so the snow slides off on the side I wanted it to, Min Height I 13 on the low side.

Thanks to those who have now started to include some building costs.
Yes, there will be some differences between areas of the country, Canada vs US etc. etc., but it definitely helps when looking at all the options for building.

Your trailer height won't change significantly when hooked up unless you have it really nose high which isn't a good way to tow anyway.
Mine is 30x50 and park the 40' motorhome under it. The extra length means that the coach sits tucked under for better weather protection. The extra width allows me to park the pontoon boat next to it and be able to extend all slides to work or clean. Also can fully extend the awning to let it dry after being in rain.
For height I set the sides at 14' which allows me to work on the roof without being in a low crawl. Typical pole barn as you describe 6x6 uprights, metal 3-12 trusses, no sides, at least not yet. I do drape a tarp across the front in the summer when I'm not on the road since that's west facing and it helps keep things cooler and protected from the afternoon summer sun.
I also put in 50 amp, water and it's own small septic tank. Actually wiring has 100 amp box with 50, 30 and 20 amp outlets with lighting.

It seems that maybe some folks are speaking of roof trusses that are arched, higher in the center than on the walls. I've been thinking of trusses that are the same height at the edges as the center. Am I missing something?

All depends on what you want. I personally would not build a shop without high enough ceilings so I could walk on my roof. If I ever needed to do roof repair, replacement, ac, or any other kind of work. I sure would lile to be able to do it in the shade or hopefully a climate controlled enviroment

Need to worry about having 14' clearance--building something to minimum clearances will come back to haunt you...
It's your money, but can tell you from experience that plenty of clearance on all sides and top is necessary, and having to squeeze by on the side or crawl on belly on the roof isn't fun. And not having ANY sidewall protection down from the roof on the sides will not protect your RV sufficiently--which is the reason to build a port, right?

I guess I'm confused. RV's height is 13' 6" or less. I'm 6'3". For me to park the RV in a storage bldg. and walk on the roof, it would have to be 20' tall.
