Suggestions on using Transport Co to move 5th wheel vs. pickup truck

We have been long time RVers with Class A Diesels, but I have recently decided to abandon the Class A for a fifth wheel. We would like to use a transport company to move the fifth wheel. Our stays will be up north, one location for several months then into storage up north. Then next year out of storage via transport co to same location or possibly a new location many hundreds of miles away.
The average price on the transport companies is $3.30 @ mile. We are okay with that.

Any thoughts on this idea would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I would recommend you use a reliable transport company since you're okay with the average price per mile. There are many that you can google for, here's one out of probably hundreds: RV Transport Service. I'd think that your first questions as you call some of these companies should would be about liability insurance they have, what it covers, etc. And of course check with your own insurance.

I worked as a drive away driver out of Elkheart Indiana (there are several transport companies there) driving brand new cube trucks, ambulances, and the occasional RV, and I know that all of us drivers were independent contractors. It was the companies that assumed the liability.

On the other hand, there are many many small outfits, sometimes just one person, that do this job for half what the big transport companies charge. I've looked into them when my brother needed his project car hauled a couple thousand miles and you need to be sharp while selecting a company to winnow the wheat from the chaff. Some seem highly competent while others seem sleazy.

I wouldn't presume to make a recommendation of a company as my info is a couple years old and things change rapidly in the hauling industry. I'd suggest you google haulers in your local area and talk to them. There are drivers that only have a big truck with 5th wheel hauling equipment that would be the least expensive but again, your own insurance should be top notch.

Just a question, what will you do if you decide to go somewhere with some friends? Will you hire somebody to drive it there?

Yes, we are prepared to use a transport company with all moves. We understand the expense and have factored that into the cost of ownership. It works for us in our travel needs. We previously traveled 5 -6 months every year with about 15-20 destinations. We no longer wish to travel that way. We will pick a location each year and stay there for the 5 months.

if you trailer sits for long periods in the same spot keep a close eye on the tires they will dry rot and crack and possibly have a blow out on the road. park on something dry like wood or patio blocks, never on dirt for long periods of time and 5 years on the tires and swap them out.

transporting if you don't have any desire to travel freely then a company or a friend with a truck. Having some friends do it is tricky from a legal point they should have class A license and motor carrier rights like a business. If you were to ride with the driver and say you're going camping, then the truck police can't do anything.
