Switching Mattress

I own a 2020 BigCountry Heartland that came with a not so good King size mattress. Thinking of downsizing to a Queen size smaller mattress with the same length which is 80’, to add more space on both sides of the bed. I notice that I have to cut a few inches on both sides of the wooden platform which I don’t think should be any problem and then even build nightstands for the space on both sides of the bed. Has anyone taken own this type of project?

We replaced our RV Queen with Full Size Queen....hung over a little bit but was never an issue

So don't see how going King to Queen would be an issue

As long as what you cut off of the sides doesn't need to encroach on the support you should be fine. I'm trying to remember residential sizes and think a king is 72" and a queen 60". Do you have 6" of overhang on each side? If so, it shouldn't be a problem.

While you're at it, could you send me the scraps so I can add them onto our bed? The wife and I still seem to fight over space even with 72"...

California King--- 84"L x 72"W
King ------------- 80"L x 76"W
Queen ----------- 80"L x 60"W
RV Queen ------- 74"L x 60"W

Then there are those 'Special' sized mattresses

If you would like join the Heartland Owners Club & Forum. There are several individuals there that have done the same modification you are talking. You can also use the Heartland forum to assist in troubleshooting issues you will experience. Also once you join you will see all the different rallies that are offered, including a National Rally on the odd number years, except for this year which has been cancelled due to Covid.
