You make some very valid points. I don't imagine they would apply, though, to the B&W. You see... the shaft is square. The locking pin merely prevents the ball or adapter from lifting out.
A twisted up B&W adapter means that the rig has already been hit with a catastrophic force that would likely require towing the entire rig away from the scene... or worse.
I appreciate your words of advise. If the scenerio you presented were true in this case, I too would advise against it.
