I don't blame you. I wouldn't want one either. But they do have their place, of course. Just not for us. Your new truck will do just fine. And at least you bought the right one! Lots of good ones out there; but you got the Cummins, and you will be a happy man. And the 2500 will have a nicer ride than the 3500. Good luck and have a good time!

How do you know the trailer weighs 12k? Did you weigh it? Do you know what your truck weighs, its GVWR, the payload on it? Make sure you know that info before you get on the road, especially as newbies. Good luck!

Hate to tell you this but 20% pin weight of 12,000 lbs is 2400 lbs of pin weight. Check your door sticker on the RAM. I suspect you are overloaded. We have a 2500 CTD and 12000 lbs 5ers are out of our range.

Practice makes perfect...

Congrats, you will love your new lifestyle. We have been fiver owners since 2007, before that a pop-up tent camper, and before that tents. So a good seventeen years, we just purchased a new fiver, at 35', and pull an 18' boat behind it. Planning your route is the most important part of your trip, great books available, i.e. one that details mountain passes east and west, one call "next exit" which lists what you can find off of internet ramps, the Truckers or Rv'ers guide to diesel stations, camping books et. campground details. Congrats, and before you know it...you will be the experienced ones!!!
