They sold the gas tax to the gullible voters (not all fell for this), waited 2 months and passed a resolution to divert all incoming funds from the new taxes into other projects. The resolution only needed a 2/3rds majority vote, which Sacramento has by default and no media coverage to call them out. So our roads will still not get fixed because the DOT still has no money. Wait 2 or 3 years and Sacramento will call for another tax increase to fill the shortfall they created. And they will divert the funds again.

TLDNR - register your truck out of the state of CA.
And these fees will be repealed by the voters in November. It was just approved for the ballot.

Sorry, I don't trust any of the lemmings that live in the metro areas to vote in their best interest.

It's a longshot, but common sense may prevail this time. It's happened before.

Here in Montana, my old GMC (2003) had permanent plates. No fees anymore. Unfortunately it developed a terminal disease and I just replaced it with a 2018 GMC 3500. No sales tax and just under $300 to register. After reading about what others paid, I guess I won't complain.

In Michigan... $262 annually for license plates for the F-350. One time 6% sales tax when purchased. No personal property tax.
